Exclusive Intel Brief #2: Hamas, drugs, fear, and manipulation. The...

1. The 2018-2019 Gaza border protests, or the “Great March of Return”: this individual revealed how the terror group decided to leverage these actions as a way to foment instability and draw international attention to Gaza and its affairs. However, he disclosed that in order for the terror group to place pressure on Israel and allow Qatari funds to keep flowing into the coastal enclave when the Israeli government would hesitate, Hamas would leverage some Gazans in violent actions during what were intended to be largely nonviolent protests. The group would approach prisoners in the Strip who were indicted on drug charges and offer them two choices.
The first was a group of pharmaceutical opioid painkillers to fulfill desperately desired “highs” by these inmates in exchange for them going right up to the security fence with Israel and creating all kinds of trouble, whether it was attacks, burning facilities, or a whole host of other activities. The second was telling them that if they went to the fence and got injured, they would have their sentences eliminated and get to stay home with their families. Either way, these drug addicted prisoners were going to receive some relief by receiving substances from Hamas or being released back to their families for enduring injuries and causing trouble to draw international attention and condemnation toward Israel.
This source, close to Hamas, while he did not have concrete evidence to share with me, strongly believed that October 7 fighters were also provided with plenty of drugs to turn them into “super soldiers,” explaining the unimaginably brutal actions committed on that fateful day.
2. A few years ago, as Hamas was prosecuting drugs in Gaza, it caught a UN employee who was working for UNRWA as a teacher, with hundreds of pre-rolled hashish cigarettes, and imprisoned him as a result. This attorney tried to represent the teacher, but was told that this UNRWA employee is implicated in selling drugs, given that it was a large quantity. However, he was told that if he wanted to free this individual, he should speak with one of al-Qassam brigades’ chief of staffs in northern Gaza, a man by the name of Abu Ahmed Suleiman, who was assassinated by the Israeli military not that long ago. Abu Ahmed told the attorney that he could have the UNRWA employee released from prison for 5000 Jordanian Dinars, or $7,000. Once the prisoner paid, he was released the next day to his family, and the drug charge was expunged from his record, allowing him to return to teaching for UNRWA.
3. Yahya Sinwar implemented a reign of terror on the entirety of the al-Qassam brigades’ leadership structure throughout Gaza. He would curse everyone out, use foul language, promise to kill and annihilate everyone, and tell people to fall in line, including those who were theoretically higher ranks than himself – always getting away with it and always getting his wish. This attorney was witness to verbal and almost physical abuse by Sinwar toward the rest of Hamas’s military leadership, many of whom were opposed to carrying out October 7 yet had little choice but to go along with it once it commenced. They enjoyed unimaginable wealth and benefits in Gaza; more corrupt than the Palestinian Authority dreamed of being – multiple wives, multiple homes, guards, staff, cars, influence, and anything they said went. “Resistance” to them was a mere slogan to steal the Palestinian people’s resources and wealth, not actually carry out attacks against Israel, and risk losing it all.
4. Hamas’s judicial “system” was a complete farce in which becoming a judge required declaring an oath to the terror group, taking computerized lawyer and judge board tests, which were rigged with pre-determined answers based on one’s perceived loyalty to the organization. Proceedings were often interrupted with suddenly closed-off sessions that allowed fighters and terrorists to come into court and dismiss any issues they did not like under the guise of the “higher resistance national interest,” rendering the legal profession under Hamas’s governance apparatus irrelevant and entirely impotent.
In essence, the guys with the guns ran a mafia operation that had the guise of a governance structure with legal and regulatory regimes, but in fact, it was all a lie and a farce. The al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas controlled the Gaza Strip with an iron fist for over 18 years and co-opted any resemblance of any civilian infrastructure and order.
Hamas, despite claiming to have civilian, social, political, and religious arms, is ultimately nothing more than a militia terrorist organization masquerading as a “resistance” entity, with the sole objective of exerting dominance and control over the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip to extract maximum financial, political, and economic benefit and gains.
