Last month, @RepRileyMoore sent a letter to President Trump asking him to honor Patrick J. Buchanan with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Long before it was fashionable or politically expedient, Buchanan was a prophetic voice on the defining issues of our time: Immigration, trade, foreign policy, sovereignty, and the "cultural war" he famously described in his 1992 speech at the Republican National Convention.

He never held political office, and his three presidential campaigns were viciously ridiculed, smeared and attacked by both party establishments.
He tried to warn us about the dire consequences of the beltway consensus—and was dismissed.

Nevertheless, in both his political campaigns and his prolific writings, Buchanan made an extraordinary impact on American politics. He gave millions of Americans a language to describe what was happening to their country—and showed them that they were not alone in their beliefs.

He showed that countless ordinary Americans hungered for the very ideas that President Trump championed in his historic road to victory two decades later. Today, he's rightly regarded as a hero by America First conservatives. But he's never received the recognition he deserves.

We should make that right.

"In awarding him with our nation’s highest civilian honor, you would not only be recognizing the service of one man but vindicating the cause he fought for—a cause which finally found its champion in your person."
