Anyone who still claims that NATO “provoked” russia to attack Ukraine is either brainwashed or ignorant.

First, in the last 350 years, russia has waged 24 wars against Ukraine. I presume all of them were provoked by NATO, even though NATO didn’t even exist then.

2/ The main reason russia attacked Ukraine is russian imperialism, grounded in russian genocidal culture.
3
3/ Second, a simple look at cause and effect shows the opposite: it wasn’t NATO that “provoked” russian aggression, but it was russia’s aggression that pushed Ukraine towards NATO.

4/ Before 2013, only about 20–30% of Ukrainians supported joining NATO. After russia illegally annexed Crimea in 2014, support jumped to over 50%. And today, after the full-scale invasion, nearly 90% of Ukrainians want NATO membership.

5/ The same pattern played out in Northern Europe: russia’s aggression forced historically neutral Sweden and Finland to join NATO. In fact, russia has done more to strengthen and expand NATO than any Western policy ever could.
