Caitlin Clark, as a superior athlete in a historically underperforming and boring league, has two obvious vectors of INTERSECTIONAL appeal (see? I can be Woke, too), neither of which the WNBA wants to talk about;

1. She is a white woman who clearly inspires some resentment among the predominately black female players

2. She is a relatively attractive heterosexual woman who clearly inspires some resentment among the predominately butch lesbian players

These two phenomenon supercharge the abuse she takes, but also intrigue a broader audience of

1. White men looking on a white woman overcoming the obvious racial injustice of poor refereeing, typical of modern US institutions, and resonant with them

2. Women seeing a woman succeeding in a way normally associated with men but still being a “girls’ girl” (straight, pretty) which is a huge component of their own power fantasies

The WNBA could become an intensely valuable media property IF they and team owners commit to an unseemly strategy which they should NEVER, ever publicly acknowledge, which is the cultivated basketball talent development pipeline focusing on tall babes, with hotness among a diverse (in this case more white and asian, but still some black) set of players being as or more important than playing skill, precisely so the content of the league is a bunch of lithe, statuesque, fierce Amazons shouting at each other in flowy jerseys and tight shorts.
