This problem was proposed in 1966 by Leo Moser, who also proposed the fun worm problem.
The simple Hammersley sofa (shown here) was proposed in 1968 with area 2.2074..
The Gerver sofa was in 1992, and Jineon Baek's proof came in 2024, 58yrs later!
