in one study rats received an electronic shock every time they entered a dark room, this was repeated several times until the rats were avoidant of this dark room.
the rats that were trained to avoid this dark room now, had their brains removed, and their brains were turned into an extract.
now here comes the CRAZY PART, this brain extract was injected intra-peritoneally (through the abdomen) into MICE, which are quite literally an completely different species.
the result:
these mice spent SIGNIFICANTLY less time in this dark room than the mice that were injected with the brains of untrained rats.
what's crazy is that this happened across different species
