A π§΅on analysis in our new report...
2
CDM has documented 2,820 protests linked to the troubled property sector (44% of all events). We have tracked a 10% YoY increase (despite a government censorship campaign at the beginning of 2024 that appeared to reduce the amount of protests we could document).
3
The new report also includes an analysis of 228 protests by rural residents, primarily around land grabs. At the core of these disputes are inadequate consultation or compensation, systemic corruption, and ineffective remedy. More than half of these dissent events resulted in some form of repression.

A 3rd feature looks a changing transportation sector and 91 protests by taxi, bus, ride-hailing, & delivery drivers. CDM analysis indicates drivers more often target local gov't than other in labor protests because grievances are linked to gov't policies. We have also started seeing protests linked to self-driving cars.
