The most difficult achievement in US politics is to remove an incumbent from Congress.

Re-election rates are comparable to Brezhnev-era Soviet politics.

Only one group - AIPAC - has shown power to remove incumbents repeatedly: as punishment for insufficient support of Israel:

The thing most Senators and House members care about most is staying in power: re-election.

They know, of course, that AIPAC has the singular power to remove them for failing to stay in line. That's one big reason Israel votes are so uniquely lopsided.
