BREAKING NEWS

56 year old Joseph Dituri, a retired U.S. naval officer spent 3 months in a pod 30 feet under water, which reversed his biological age markers by 10 years. When he went down his biological age was 44, and when he came up it was 34. His telomeres had lengthened by 20%, cholesterol dropped 72 points, stem cells went up 17 times (!), inflammatory markers dropped by half and sleep improved dramatically.

People can recreate his experience by renting out an underwater hotel like the Jules’ Undersea Lodge in Florida (only $1500/night!), or just stay in a 2 atmosphere hyperbaric chamber that mimics the effects of being 30 feet under water. Sleeping every night in a rigid 2 atm HBOT chamber (only $50k used!) would be much less hassle and take only about 3 times longer depending on how much time you stay asleep every day (usual HBOT therapy bleeds in pure oxygen, but for long term use like this you would use normal air to avoid oxygen toxicity).

But at least some of the benefits can be had with simply oxygen therapy, without the pressure, or hassle, or exorbitant price tag. Breathing pure oxygen can also increase stem cell counts with simple oxygen concentrators going for about $500 a pop. Pure oxygen therapy can’t be used for prolonged periods so no more than a couple hours a day to avoid toxicity.

There are other variations on pure oxygen treatment too, for example exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT) seems to supercharge the benefits of short exposures to pure oxygen (15 minutes 3 times a week), but requires inflating a large balloon with oxygen using the concentrator since during exercise the lungs pull more oxygen per minute than the concentrator can keep up with. Still the entire EWOT setup is in the $1k-3k range.

Of course it’s certainly possible that “biological age” notwithstanding, it’s not actually health promoting to live for 3 months in a tiny submerged capsule without any sunlight or fresh air.

Those tests for biological age gotta be missing something…
