The funny thing about the "Trad" adoration of Rome is that this "Trad" adoration of Rome is the root of our "first as tragedy and then as farce" repetition of the Roman Empire-- when you try to recreate Rome, you succeed in recreating Rome, in its similarly doomed manner.

You can translate directly the same crises from Rome to the present, because they are the same crises, because they are the inevitable outcome of the same problem, which is the problem of private property & immutable debts owed to individuals.

The funny thing about an Oligarchy is that you end up with too many Oligarchs, requiring the debt of more and more to grow into a societal crisis, & the inevitable outcome is an alliance of the Many & the One over this issue of establishing an authority which can cancel debts-- Julius Caesar, Jesus Christ, & so on. Both killed for the same reason-- for seeking to become kings.

The Defense of Rome means assassinating the People's King so that Senators can continue enabling the oligarchs to parasitize an ever-expanding empire-- same as it ever was-- there is a limit which is reached, you get revolts on the imperial periphery, population movements, fracturing internally-- as this extraction begins to effect the "old nobility" who are indebted & proletarianized, you get popular nobility.

Caesar's line could claim direct lineage to Aeneas-- but he grew up in the slums of Subura (often described as an "red light district" in modern terms)-- having almost nothing in terms of wealth aside from his titles-- he was betrothed to marry a plebeian girl whose family was wealthier by means of the equestrian trade (aka: military contractors selling horses to the roman army & making a killing).

This is what happens, inevitably with an oligarchy-- the "downwardly mobile oligarchs" of yesteryear become radicalized as they are replaced with a new crop of oligarchs-- slowly they are bled from their properties & influence-- & they find themselves side by side with proletarians, & they see therein the means by which they can ascend over these new oligarchs.

This is inevitable because oligarchy requires expansion by means of piracy-- & the pirates must be promised a title of nobility in perpetuity-- & so the ranks of the entitled expands generationally-- & then begin to cannibalize each other.

You can see how a downwardly mobile descendent of Old Stock American oligarchy could be convinced to become a Popular Noble when this is rubbed in their face
