“So, what seems to be the problem?” The marriage counsellor asked Taehyung and Jungkook. “Why do you think you’re here today?”

“…” They both stayed silent, Taehyung looking at Jungkook, waiting for him to speak first.

“So all of sudden, you don’t wanna talk?” Taehyung asked.
3
“Oh, you want /me/ to talk? I was just planning on sitting down here like a fucking idiot because apparently whenever I open my mouth annoys you.”

“That’s not true.” Taehyung sighed. “And did we really come to marriage counselling for that? Cause I snapped at you once?”
4
“You haven’t been listening to me if you think it’s just that.” Jungkook mumbled. “You’re working all day, I never get to see you. I go to bed alone and wake up alone. You used to treat me like I was your everything and now…you don’t talk to me, you don’t even look at me.”
5
Taehyung looked away in shame after seeing how hurt Jungkook was. He was just as ashamed to be in marriage counselling after he promised to make Jungkook the happiest man alive.

“Alright, let’s start from the top. Jungkook, what makes you think everything you say annoys him?”
6
“He rolls his eyes or sighs whenever I speak to him.” He muttered.

“That’s not true, I’m not rolling my eyes or sighing at him, it’s just work is a lot and sometimes I just…”

“You take it out on Jungkook?”

“I don’t mean to!” Taehyung tried to defend himself.
7
“I don’t believe you.” Jungkook told him.

“I don’t care if you believe me or not. I have a full day of annoying people at work nagging me, you’re the only person who gets me, I’d never snap at you on purpose.”

“Well, you still did.”
8
“I’m trapped at work with people I don’t like all day trust me, I wanna hear your voice when I get home.”

“Then…then why have you never told me?”

“I don’t know cause…it’s weird to just bring that up out of nowhere.” He shrugged.

“Of course.” Jungkook scoffed.
9
“Do you mind telling me, when was the last time you complimented your husband?” He asked.

“Well, I’m not sure, it’d be weird to keep track of that, wouldn’t it?”

“You could try now.” Their counsellor offered.
10
“Turn to Jungkook and give him a compliment about something, anything. Maybe your favorite thing about him.”

“Alright.” He sighed, turning to Jungkook. “I think your eyes are beautiful.”

“Thanks Tae.” He blushed.
11
Gosh, Taehyung didn’t realize how much he missed seeing his husband blush over little comments like that.

“A-and your hair.” He quickly added more. “You started growing out your hair, it looks cute on you.”
12
Jungkook only smiled. He’s been growing out his hair for a while and Taehyung hasn’t said anything. He was actually growing a little insecure so he planned on cutting it. He’s glad Taehyung liked it.

“Can’t he say something nice about me?” Taehyung asked.
13
“I always compliment you.”

“No, you don’t.” He frowned and Jungkook smiled a bit, seeing how cute Taehyung got in just a second.

“I do but fine. I like the way your cheeks look like bread when you smile.”

“What kind of compliment is that?” He chuckled.
14
“Maybe if you remembered, you’d appreciate it more.”

“Of course I remember, I was just joking!”

“Remember what?” The counsellor asked.
15
“When we just started dating in high school, he called me bread cheeks all the time cause my face gets puffy when I wake up.” He explained before turning to Jungkook. “Why don’t you call me that anymore?”
16
“I just figured you grew out of it.” He shrugged before seeing Taehyung look away. “You’re still my bread cheeks.”

“Whatever.” He blushed, hiding his face.

“Do you always respond to his compliments like this?”

“Every time.” Jungkook answered before Taehyung did.
17
“Like he doesn’t care.”

“Do you not care about Jungkook’s compliments?” The counsellor turned to Taehyung.

“Of course I do. I care.” He muttered. “It’s just embarrassing.”

“Why do you think that?”
18
“Because we’ve been married for years and he still—sometimes I still get shy and it makes me feel like an idiot.”

“You get shy around me?” Jungkook looked up at him.

“See?“ Taehyung’s face got red as he turned away. “He looks at me with his big eyes and I feel like an idiot.”
19
“If it helps, sometimes that’s how I feel.” Jungkook reached for Taehyung’s hand.

“I thought you hated me now.” Taehyung smiled at the feeling of Jungkook’s hand on his.

“Don’t say that, I could never hate you.”

“Alright, we’re getting somewhere.” The counsellors smiled.
20
“Jungkook you brought up how often Taehyung works? How often do you see each other?”

“Well he comes home at 7 and goes to the home office to work more and I go to bed at 10 so I see him 3 hours a day.” Jungkook explained.

“I have to work though.”
21
“You’re the ceo, you choose your own hours, it wouldn’t kill you to come home earlier.”

“The place goes to hell if I’m not there, they need me or who knows what will happen? You want a divorce just because I have a job and can’t give you my undivided attention anymore?”
22
“What?” Jungkook felt his heart drop at the word divorce. Was that on Taehyung’s mind? A divorce? “I didn’t say that…”

“No wait, I didn’t…“ Taehyung felt the warmth of Jungkook’s hand on his disappear.
23
“I’m gonna go to the bathroom for a second.” He muttered softly before heading to the bathroom.

“Shit, why would I say that to him?” He held his head down, tears blocking his eye sight when he realized he snapped…again and almost made Jungkook cry.
24
“Is a divorce really what you want?“ The counsellor asked.

“No, of course not, he’s the love of my life.”

“Well, have you tried to show him that? Don’t you think if he was the love of your life, you’d want to spend more time with him?”
25
“Of course I want to, it’s just…work’s really important.”

“Then you’ll have to make a sacrifice, what makes you happier? Work or Jungkook?”

“Hey.” Jungkook cleared his throat as he walked back into the room, surprised when Taehyung pulled him closer and hugged him.
26
“I’m sorry. You know I didn’t mean that, right?”

“I know.” Jungkook sighed, pulling away. “But, Tae…I wish sorry couldn’t fix all of this but it can’t. It’s not that easy.”

“How can I fix it?” Taehyung sighed.

“…Go back in time and be there for my birthday.”
27
“Hold on…” The counsellor took some notes in their book. “You missed his birthday? The whole day?”

“Not on purpose.” Taehyung quickly said. “I had a business trip and I was supposed to be back in time but my flight got delayed. I would never miss his birthday on purpose.”
28
“It doesn’t matter if it was on purpose or not. The whole entire fucking day I was thinking ‘Taehyung wouldn’t miss my birthday, he’s gonna show up and surprise me out of nowhere.’
29
I dressed up thinking you’d take me out like you always do then I went to bed with a ‘happy birthday’ text.”

“Jungkook-“
30
“And the thing is, for your birthday I set up a candlelit dinner. I cooked for you, I bought your favorite wine, I even tried to look pretty for you to…y’know and you came home and said you were tired from work.”

“Taehyung, it’s always important to put your husband first.”
31
“I know but I just want us to have a comfortable lifestyle.”

“Taehyung, I work as well. We’re more than comfortable and you know that.”

“Yeah, just for the two of us.” He told him.

“What’re you talking about?”
32
“Kids.” He muttered. “I want us to adopt, we talked about it before and I want to make sure we’re all more than comfortable and I can’t do that if my business fails.”
33
“You still want to adopt? You barely pay attention to me, it’s hard to believe you’d pay attention to kids as well.”

“You’re saying I wouldn’t be a good dad?” Taehyung’s voice quieted down. He’s always had his heart set on being a father.
34
“No, that’s not what I said. I know you’d be an amazing dad but you’re still working on the husband aspect.”

“Fine.”

“Fine what?”

“I’ll work 9-5 instead. Five days a week, that’s as far as I’ll go.”

“You’re being serious?” Jungkook asked.
35
“And you’ll spend time with me when you’re at home?”

“I’ve been working so much so guess I haven’t found much time for things that really matter. So yes, I’ll spend time with you.”

“And you’re not saying this just because the counsellor is here? This is a promise?“

“Promise.”
36
✧˚ · .
37
“You know there’s one thing we didn’t get to talk about.” Jungkook said while Taehyung drove them home.

“Yeah, what’s that?”

“You used to treat me like I was your everything.”

“I promised I’d change.”
38
“Taehyung…you’ve made empty promises like that before and we end up at the same place everytime.”

“All I can do is promise and show you that I mean it this time.”
39
“Okay…” Jungkook’s voice trailed off pursing his lips. He wanted to believe Taehyung, he really did but he couldn’t bring himself to.

He leaned his head against the window, subtly scooting away from him husband.
40
He’s never thought they’d get to the point in their relationship where they’d have to go to marriage counselling.

All those things Taehyung said to him today; the promises, the compliments…he hasn’t said things like that to Jungkook in years.
41
Was he the problem? When did he go from being the love of Taehyung’s life to being a chore, a mere promise for him to keep.

He clenched his seatbelt tight, feeling tears stream down his face as Taehyung pulled into their driveway.
42
“Jungkook?” Taehyung put a hand on his his husbands thigh when he heard his soft sobs and sniffles. “Hey, what happened?”

“Do you still love me?”

Taehyung’s lips parted when his crying husband turned to him.
43
This was the second time he’s made Jungkook cry today, but he couldn’t believe the question. Does he love him anymore? Was that a serious question?
44
Jungkook was a sobbing mess, he truly believed he’s completely lost Taehyung before feeling his lips press against his. Jungkook leaned into the kiss while Taehyung wiped his tears away with his thumb.
45
“You really think I don’t love you, Darling?” Taehyung pulled away, their foreheads resting against each other. “You’ve always been the love of my life.”

“But—“
46
“Let me finish. I’m sorry I made you feel that way, like I don’t love you. I just got so caught up with work I forgot about the only thing that gives my life meaning, you. The last thing I’d want is for you to hate me, can you forgive me?”
47
“I told you I could never hate you.” A smile grew on Jungkook’s face. “I forgive you.”

“My beautiful baby.” Taehyung smiled brightly, pecking Jungkook’s lips. “I’ll always love you.”
