Ayn Rand used to hang out in the Nabokov family estate when they were younger, as she was friends with Vladimir's younger sister, & argue with them (they being staunch Anglophile Liberal Constitutional Democrats)-- taking the American position against the British Empire.
@UrbanMaoism Ayn Rand unironically adopted fundamental parts of Lenin's Materialism and Empirio-Criticism, which she learned from studying in Petrograd state university.
Anyone familiar with her philosophy can see this. She gave it a twist that gave it very different political implications.

She's not read anywhere else in the Anglosphere-- for better or worse, Ayn Rand is one of the most important American Philosophers-- & tho her criticisms of the Bourgeois Socialism of her time is, perhaps, not "Orthodox Marxist"-- it remains a critique that is indelibly influenced by Marx.

I think she was just kind of uncharitable with Marx as a long dead man in her description of "Marxists" as Keynesians-- which is essentially "Fabian Socialism"-- Marxism as mediated by the British Empire. There's a lot to be said of the USSR as a British crypto-colony...
