Atlanta is pretty good, the first episode of the third season is about White Lesbians adopting black kids to use as slave labor in their kombucha / pickle farm & it's presented as a direct homage (structurally) to Edgar Allan Poe's ghost stories.
2
It's funny how the people who complain about "wokeness" would consider this show "woke" because it plays with race relations in America (& Europe) -- but it presents the "Woke" White Bourgeois as the true source of "White Supremacy" -- not the working class.
3
If working class white people realized that they're effectively "not white" -- & that "rural identity" is coded as "not white" or a subtype of "notwhite" that is somehow worse than "black" (like "white who has black values" -- "ghetto white" -- "white trash")-- they'd get it.
4
White Liberals: "Single Moms are so trashy."

Black People: "What?"

White Liberals: "Oh, not you! I meant White Trash Teen Moms! You guys have an excuse, & I'm sorry by the way. But these White Trash Single Moms are useless eaters with no excuse."
5
I like Atlanta because I'm this guy. He's representative of the authentic working class consciousness of America-- he's a "conspiracy theorist" -- best character in the show

The first season of Atlanta feels to me like a Trojan horse for the rest of it-- every major plot point in the first season is shredded & abandoned by Season 2-- the "episodic sitcom structure" of the first season disintegrates into surrealist "southern gothic" vignettes
7
It's a structurally interesting piece of television-- at some point "Atlanta" becomes the Protagonist, & the only thing holding everything together is "Atlanta"-- even when the plot moves to Europe, it's all centered on the existence of Atlanta as "Capital of African America"
8
One of the best moments is when the cast finds themselves at a University of Atlanta (I think?) Fraternity party, where the white kids are trying to present themselves as authentic southerners ("I fuck with UGK") to Paper Boi (the rapper character).
9
The Cast sees the Fraternity "Culture" of Hazing & Ritual Humiliation played out "for their enjoyment" -- but it's actually off-putting to them-- the greater point being that "ritual humiliation" is what white people to do each other, black people aren't interested in it lol
10
You can see this in the dynamics of "The Internet Right"-- a fraternity hazing culture which presents Black people as having this desire to humiliate white people publicly, but really, it's all white people doing this to each other, pretending to do it "on behalf of blacks"
