Millennials/Gen Z seem very resistant to understanding how much worse this country used to be. I mean where do you even begin. The big obvious one is LGBT rights, which was largely theoretical until the 21st century. Crime is a fraction of what it used to be.

Believe it or not, the healthcare system used to be a million times worse. Insurers could drop you whenever they wanted for no reason. They could stop insuring you if you got cancer and used it too much. They weren't actually required to cover anything either.

Trans rights in particular were literally a joke until the 2010s (there are some rough Daily Show clips out there.)

Big Tobacco has been beaten back and smoking is at an all time low. Republicans used to regularly claim it's not bad for you. Creationism is barely a thing anymore too.

Does anyone remember what credit cards were like before Dodd-Frank? They could legally lie to you about what you were signing up for.

The ozone hole stabilized thanks to a concerted international effort, that was pretty scary for a while. The blood diamond issue has been solved. Cars have safety features now.

Children's clothes used to be made out of kindling which is why they hammered "stop drop and roll" into you as a kid. Kids lit on fire all the time.

There was a big debate about corporal punishment in schools in the 90s. Republicans were legitimately pro-hitting-children all throughout the Clinton era.
