Great Man Theory of History is still true despite people doing "material analysis"-- Trump is not a set of policies, he's a cultural figure primarily, & his success is a result of his effect on the Imagination. That's how you win. That's how it always has been.

You can't predict this with metrics. You can't predict this with "material analysis." In fact, you can predict the triumph of great men in history by understanding the power of Aesthetics-- which is why I knew Trump would win in 2015 the second he announced.

People don't vote for policies-- they adopt TO policies to fit into a general "aesthetic" & narrative they become involved in. Most hardline Trumpers "didn't agree with all of his policies" initially. Trump, as a cultural force, CHANGED MINDS because he works in the IMAGINATION.

Trump literally re-aligned the Republican party by bullying it & its voters into submission. He got the "silent majority" of "evangelical christians" to consider him God's hand in the world despite being a lifelong democrat who supports gay marriage. That's the power of IMAGE.
5
The "dissident Left" has no ability to produce IMAGE. This is why the right is correct to say "the left can't meme"-- all the Left does is reappropriate images that they do not produce themselves. This includes all its forms of Nostalgia, especially borrowed soviet nostalgia.

I think the fact that the most popular "leftist" podcast is "cultural commentary" & puts out Mystery Science Theater -esque "commentary tracks" on movies is a pretty clear sign that they are not capable of MIMETIC PRODUCTION-- only "commentary"

Say what you will about Trump with your "material analysis"-- but everything the man does is a LANDMARK CULTURAL EVENT. His twitter style is one of the most influential events in 21st century prose. This is why he wins. What the fuck did Bernie do? I don't remember.
