Intestinal permeability leads to inflammation systemically, skewing T cells away from anti-inflammatory to pro-inflammatory types.

Again we see how vital the gut is.

Butyrate producing bacteria are vital to keep these T cells in check (more anti-inflammatory Tregs),

while low butyrate production impairs the immune response.

Butyrate has multiple direct anti-inflammatory effects on other tissues as well.

3. LOWERING STRESS.

Seemingly paradoxically, while glucocorticoids are given to treat these conditions, in the long run cortisol can actually enhance the inflammatory response in response to tissue damage.
