To read from the beginning, here's Part 1:

CW: mentions of bullying

Izuku is not a popular kid. He tries to make friends but all the kids in the neighborhood make fun of him. They say he's ugly with stupid dark-green hair and hideous freckles.
3
And the lovely @/thekittyheart has created this wonderful art of that moment when Izuku steps into Kacchan's world! x.com/thekittyheart/…
4
Today is Izuku’s birthday. When he had woken up this morning, the first thing he looked forward to was to meet up with Kacchan in the forest.
5
If Izuku had known that later in the day he would be on the back of a red dragon, flying at a height higher than their house, then he may not have lasted the whole day.

He would have been fidgeting in class, more eager than usual to leave the classroom full of mean kids.
6
But all those bad memories he had today suddenly don’t seem to matter anymore when he’s next to Kacchan and when they’re flying across lush mountain ranges where the rest of Kacchan’s people live.
7
Wild rivers flow in between the mountains and the roaring of the water reaches Izuku’s ears, all the way up here on Kiri the dragon’s back.

The houses remind Izuku of a treehouse that he saw on TV once.
8
He wanted his fort to be like that, but his mother could not build it for him, so he just opted for his small, blanketed fort with twigs for walls.

But here, the treehouses are not small like his little fort, and they are not on the ground.
9
Instead they’re built on thick, ancient looking trees that tower all the way to the sky. And oh boy, their trees are massive!

The branches have the width of modern bridges, strong enough to support a whole wooden house, and wide enough for dragons like Kirishima to land on.
10
From this distance, Izuku can see warm, cozy lights through the windows. If it’s possible, Izuku is sure his little heart is glowing warmly like the red stones around his neck.

“AHH! Deku, why are you crying?” Kacchan is sitting right behind him.
11
He probably can tell that Izuku is sobbing because he can’t stop his breath from hitching.

“Kacchan, this is the best day ever. I’m so happy.” Warm tears start rolling down his cheeks, but the wind wipes it away before Kacchan can.
12
“It’s about to become better because I’ll show you where I live!”

So far in their friendship, Kacchan has done everything he said he’d do. That’s why by now, Izuku learns to trust what he says.
13
When they have gone past several mountain ranges, and Izuku has seen the scenery change at least four times, the biggest tree that Izuku has seen so far comes into view.
14
It’s so huge that it makes the mountain ranges look like small hills and even if Izuku looks up, he can’t see where the tree ends! Kirishima as giant dragon becomes so tiny next to this tree. They have to fly higher in order to see the top.
15
“Kacchan, why is everything on top of trees?”

“Well, why would we be on the ground if we can fly?”

That’s a fair point. They will not need to be on the ground if their main means of transportation are flying dragons!
16
Another dragon rider zooms past them going towards the direction where they’re coming from. “Your highness! Your mother is looking for you!”

What? “‘Your highness’?” Izuku repeats.

“Don’t start calling me that. I like ‘Kacchan’ better.”

“You’re a prince?!”
17
“Didn’t you know that, already?!”

“Uh.. NO?! KACCHAN THAT IS AMAZING!”

Kirishima wings start to glide and Izuku’s field of view is filled by a massive stone castle. At least Izuku thinks it’s a castle.
18
Unlike the pointy spires of typical castles that Izuku finds in his storybooks, this castle’s towers are blocky and squarish at the top.

Kiri slowly flies to one of the highest stone towers and perches on its wide balcony.
19
When Izuku and Kacchan slide off Kiri’s back, they are immediately attended to by people that Izuku hasn’t seen before. He instinctively moves closer to Kacchan, who grabs his hand immediately.

“It’s ok! They’re our helpers in the castle.”
20
Kacchan’s helpers are all wearing identical gray robes. They all bow down before Kacchan when he starts addressing them. “Everybody, this is Deku. He’s my guest and he gets to go with me wherever I go.”

“Yes, young master!” They reply and then get up to usher them inside.
21
“Is mother home?” Katsuki asks, a little quieter this time. One of his helper steps up to reply. Izuku immediately notices little pointy ears on top of her head. It makes him think of a cat.

“The chief said that she will be out scouting the west banks today, young master.”
22
“Thank you, Kitty.” Kacchan nods at her as pulls Izuku along with him.

Izuku is still amazed. When he looks up, he can’t even comprehend how high the ceiling and the doors are, for he can barely see them.
23
“Welcome to my tower, deku. This is where I usually sleep, you have your fort and your house, right? Well this is mine!” Kacchan's warm hand pulls and guides him along.
24
Looking back at the balcony, Izuku sees that one of the helpers offers Kirishima the dragon a large bowl of water and he settles on what looks like a huge nest.

Kacchan shows his room of badges, which he got from years of participating in their tribe’s contests.
25
He takes so much pride in saying that everybody assumes he can’t do anything because he’s a spoiled noble, “Heh, proven them wrong!” Kacchan says.

Izuku cannot count all of the rooms that Kacchan has shown him.
26
He remembers a room full of plants that he has never seen before, a room filled with colorful bubbles, one with beings that look and move like jellyfish in thin air, but Izuku’s most favorite is probably the glass room.
27
All of its walls are transparent and in the middle is a rectangular contraption. Kacchan presses on it and moves it around and then Izuku watches in awe as the glass walls magnify the view.

“OH It’s a telescope!! BUT IT’S THE WHOLE WALL!!” Izuku excitedly claps his hands.
28
“I have no idea what a lettuce-scope is, but this is what we use to study our sky, the moons and the stars.. And if we want to see something far far away. Here, check this out.”
29
Kacchan presses his fingers on the corners and suddenly the view on the wall fades into a forest, with a fort and a yellow blanket on it.

Oh that’s - Izuku gasps, “Kacchan, that’s my fort! Can we see inside?”

“No, we can only see what’s on the surface, but cool, huh?”
30
“VERY, VERY, VERY COOL.”

While Kacchan teaches him how to use it, the hue of the sky turns from purple into a soft shade of dark blue as one of the moons takes its place on the highest point in the sky.

The stars shine brighter and so the rest of the other moons.
31
What a beautiful place.

If only Izuku can stay here longer. Maybe he should tell Kacchan that it's time to go back. His mother may start looking for him.

He’s about to tell Kacchan, when the glass doors burst open.
32
A woman with blonde hair, wearing a fancier outfit than Kacchan’s, storms in. Her heavy boots and the two guards flanking behind her make her look incredibly intimidating for Izuku.

“KATSUKI! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” She yells at Kacchan.
33
When someone yells at Izuku, his immediate response is to shy away, that’s what he does when bullies from school or from the neighborhood pick on him.
34
But when someone is yelling at Kacchan, a brand new fire sparked up inside him, driving him to stand in the way between Kacchan and this mean lady. He brings his eyes up to stare defiantly at her.

“Stop yelling at Kacchan!” Izuku shouts back, with his arms outstretched.
35
He must protect Kacchan. He doesn’t notice the soft, pulsing glow of the red stones around his neck.

She stops immediately, staring down at him in surprise. Her eyes are on Izuku and oh boy, Izuku can feel his knees shake. Her stare is very intimidating.
36
It makes Izuku want to back down, and to confess a sin that he didn’t even commit. But he’s not giving Kacchan up.

Is Kacchan in trouble? Is it because of Izuku? Whatever it is, Izuku will not let anything happen to him.
37
Maybe Izuku is imagining it, but the woman’s gaze at him eventually softens when Izuku refuses to budge.

“Deku, it’s okay.” Kacchan stands next to him. “What do you want, mom?”

Oh, oh no… of course that’s Kacchan’s mother. They really look so alike!
38
And how embarrassing, Izuku shouted at her!

“Is he *the* human?” Kacchan’s mother asks.

“Yes.” Kacchan nods.

Izuku’s hands start to shake and Kacchan’s mother probably notices it because she sighs.
39
“This is not you fault, Izuku.” Her hands are soft when she pats Izuku’s head, and immediately, Izuku feels less guilty. “But no one passes through our world unannounced and without me knowing. You do not belong here so it’s time for you to go back."
40
“It’s not a big deal, mom.” Kacchan pouts next to Izuku.

Her soft eyes immediately harden when she turns to Katsuki, "You brat, do you realize what you’ve done?"

"What do you- we just went past the portal! I DO IT ALL THE TIME!" Kacchan sputters out.
41
"It’s not a big deal for you, but it is for humans! You must send him back right now!"

"Mom! It's only been just one moon!"

"ONLY ONE MOON?!" It seems far from possible, but her voice rises even higher, "GODS ABOVE, FUCK! Aizawa!!" The chief yells.
42
“NO! Don’t do that! Please, mom!” Kacchan makes a move to grab Izuku but his mother gets a hold of Kacchan's arm first.

Izuku’s hands suddenly start sweating as Kacchan’s eyes start filling with tears.
43
Izuku wants to comfort him, to reach out but suddenly his red shoes are so heavy. He can barely lift his foot.

Kacchan starts struggling against her, but her grip around Kacchan’s arm remains tight. Then she drags him away, preventing him from reaching out to Izuku.
44
When a man with long black hair and white scarf around his neck walks in, Kacchan's mother orders, "Erase Izuku's memories right now and send him back quickly!"

Kacchan's eyes widen, and a sharp chill runs down Izuku's spine. He's never seen that expression on Kacchan before.
45
The hairs at the back of his neck stand up when Katsuki yells at him, "DEKU, RUN!! RUN TO THE PORTAL!"

Izuku forces his legs to move. They do move, but just not fast enough to avoid the lightning-fast white strips of cloth that dart from Aizawa.
46
They wrap and fasten themselves around Izuku's limbs, rendering him immobile.

The last thing he remembers are the glowing, red eyes of Aizawa, staring directly at him and the gentle whisper of persuasive words, urging him to forget.
47
Instead of that warm, welcoming feeling of passing through the portal and its different frames of universes, this time Izuku experiences the opposite.
48
This time, it's as if he's standing precariously on a ledge, and hands push against his chest as he starts to fall.... to fall back into the portal that suddenly opened behind him.
49
Aizawa’s hand grabs onto Izuku’s necklace of red stones and as Izuku falls into the portal’s abyss, he watches as the red necklace snaps off his neck.

50
The next time little Izuku opens his eyes, he finds himself lying in the middle of the forest, next to where his small fort should have been. Now it’s just an empty square space with no grass.
51
There is a long yellow tape around the area, wrapped around the trees, with the words printed in black, ‘DO NOT CROSS’. That’s weird.

How did he...? Why is he here?! He slowly gets up and dusts himself.
52
He doesn’t feel hurt or anything, but the back of his neck stings a little. He starts to run back home, trying desperately to recall how he even got here. He was just coming home from school, as far as remembers.

Soon, Izuku reaches his house.
53
The sun has already set, but their living room lights are still off. Is mom not home?

He slowly opens their front door and gives a quick look around. That's ..strange. The house feels and looks different.
54
The lights are off, but he finds his mother, alone and weeping by the living room.

He's about to call out to his mom and ask if she's hurt because she’s crying, but as soon as the floorboard on their foyer creaks and the front door closes, his mother looks up immediately.
55
The silence is filled by the surprised gasp his mother makes.

"Izuku....? Izuku, is that.." She whispers.

"Mom, I'm sorry I forgot the time and I fell asleep and then I woke up and my fort is gone and then..."
56
Izuku is cut off when his mother stumbles out of the couch and immediately embraces him hard. Her arms around Izuku are impossibly tight as she continues to sob.

Later, Izuku learns that he’s been missing for a week.
57
🐉 - 🐉 - 🐉 -🐉 -🐉

The series of events that happen next are all just a blur. The police comes to their house.

Some of them introduce themselves as agents who are here to help Izuku. They’re very friendly and patient when they talk to him.
58
They tell him that he’s not in trouble, but they want to know where Izuku has been the whole week.

Izuku doesn’t remember. The last thing he knows is that he went home from school, it was his birthday and he took a slice of cake home.
59
He can’t remember why, and then he woke up on the forest floor. They ask him over and over again. Does that make him stupid for not remembering?

They eventually get kicked out by his mother when Izuku can’t stop crying. It’s probably his fault that’s why he went missing.
60
But he can’t remember what he did! It’s a very strange and exhausting day.

That night when Izuku goes to sleep, his mother tucks him in and sleeps with her arms around him. She says that she’s just incredibly relieved that he’s back home.
61
“Have you seen my stuff mom?” Izuku asks her through the darkness.

“I have all your things from the fort, honey. The figurines, comic books and the hero cards.” She replies, her voice soft as she’s almost falling asleep.

He can’t help but think that he’s missing something.
62
His hands unconsciously touch the back of neck and he hears the echo of a necklace snapping. “Did I have a necklace? I think it had red stones in it.”

“I don’t think you ever had one, sweetie.” His mother says.
63
She falls asleep shortly, exhausted with everything that happened and relieved that her son is back.

He tries so hard to recall where he's been, what he's done, who he was with, but his mind doesn't remember.
64
All he knows is that there is a lingering feeling that he lost someone important.
65

17 years later ....
66
Izuku is a popular fantasy AU writer for young-adult audiences. He’s so popular that he always gets invited to book signings and podcast interviews.

“What’s your inspiration behind your main character, Izuku?” The interviewer asks him.
67
He’s sitting in a cozy coffee shop, with another magazine writer. She’s the 3rd one this month as Izuku’s newest book “The Flight of the Barbarian Dragon Prince” reaches the top 5 in the bestsellers in fantasy.
68
“Ahh, the Dragon Prince is based on an old friend. He’s always taught me to believe in myself.” Izuku gives his ‘press-release smile’ that he practised so well to go along with his lies.

Izuku doesn’t have an "old friend like the Dragon Prince".
69
He wishes he does, and he doesn’t understand why. The only place he’s real is in Izuku’s dreams.

For a whole decade, he’s had recurring dreams of red dragons, sword fights, magic, colorful moons and different universes.
70
And he dreams all the time of the blond prince, holding him in his arms and kissing him until Izuku doesn’t remember his own name anymore.

Then Izuku wakes up. He tries so hard to recall what the face of the prince looks like, but he can’t.
71
It escapes his mind like water through his fingers.

Once in a while, when Izuku is alone and walking towards his studio apartment downtown, he gets the feeling that eyes are on him.

He sees a glimpse on his peripheral the glow of blond hair under the rays of the sun.
72
But when Izuku directs his gaze at it, it’s gone. Izuku thinks he hears the swish of a cape, and the sound of mighty wings.

He is already an expert at brushing that feeling aside, because he’s had that experience constantly for the last 10 years.
73
The strange sightings like this came right after Izuku had another unexplained disappearance.

It has already happened twice in Izuku’s life. The first was when he was 7 years old. He disappeared on his birthday, only to be found a week later.
74
The second time it happened, Izuku was 17 years old. Izuku would never forget that because he failed a highschool year for it. The last thing he remembered was that he was in his room, studying for finals late in the evening.
75
Then the next moment, he’s lying in his bed and it’s suddenly a whole later. Izuku had missed his finals, but that was the least of his problems. His poor mother had been inconsolable.

On both times, the police turned up without any answers.
76
There was no sign of an intruder, or forced entry in Izuku’s room. His windows were locked, his door was shut. It was as if Izuku just vanished and then re-appeared in his room a week later.
77
🐉- 🐉 - 🐉 - 🐉 - 🐉

Izuku finally arrives in his apartment building.

When the elevator dings and the doors slide to his floor, he immediately notices all the big boxes stacked up in the hallway.

Oh, someone’s finally moving into the apartment across Izuku's, yaay!
78
He’s gonna have a neighbour! He can’t see them behind all of these boxes though.

As Izuku walks through the hallway, he starts thinking about the possible, neighbourly things that he can do to welcome his new neighbour. He should google it later.
79
Maybe giving them soup, or making a casserole for them, maybe baking a chocolate cake, or ..

“I don’t like chocolate. But I wouldn’t say ‘no’ to a damn spicy curry.” A voice behind Izuku says. Izuku is mumbling again, how embarrassing! And his new neighbour heard it too!
80
Izuku turns around to greet his neighbour, but as soon as his eyes land on a pair of stunning red ones, he swears he forgets his name.

The hallway and the boxes disappear and it’s just him and possibly the most beautiful person Izuku has ever seen in his life.
81
How is it possible to be this perfect?

“Thanks, I know I’m cute, but I’m not *that* beautiful.” The blond gives him the most sinful grin. Izuku's knees feel so weak.

Izuku almost squeaks, “S-sorry!” Fuck. He had not stuttered in a long time, but now he’s suddenly so nervous.
82
“I t-tend to mumble out loud without realizing, sorry you had to hear that, it’s not always like this!”

His neighbor leans against his own doorframe. Their apartment doors align perfectly.
83
“Heh. Don’t worry about it, I’ll let it slide. But I won’t let that spicy curry go, yeah?” The blond angel of possibly Izuku’s death (because he’s so gorgeous, he’ll be the death of Izuku) has the audacity to grin the most perfect of all grins.
84
“Alright. Okay.” Izuku smiles despite the tension and awkwardly rubs the back of his neck. He takes a deep breath as he reaches out his right hand. He should do this properly, “My name is Midoriya Izuku and I’m gonna be your neighbor. Welcome to the building, Mr…?”
85
When his neighbour takes his hand, and puts it around his warm and bigger one, Izuku gets the urge to take a step closer. Something is drawing him in. Izuku is suddenly enveloped by the strong and warm feeling of safety and familiarity.
86
Izuku stares at his lips, and he thinks he already knows what they will feel like when he kisses them.

“Katsuki. Bakugou Katsuki. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Izuku.”
