𝐉𝐎𝐇𝐍 𝐀𝐃𝐀𝐌𝐒: 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐌 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐄𝐔𝐑𝐎𝐏𝐄 𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐂𝐇 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐁𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐘 𝐋𝐈𝐁𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 On January 22 1825, long after both 𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙢𝙨 and 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙅𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 had left their office of the American presidency; both American founding fathers kept exchanging letters to each other well into their retirement & old age. Starting in 1817, the third president of the United States 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙅𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 drafted plans to find and consecrate the 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙑𝙞𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙖, which would later get legislative authorization in 1819 along with formal charters for the University that same year, and a few years later construction of the academic buildings and housing between the years of 1822 & 1825. Classes for the 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙑𝙞𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙖 officially began on March 7 1825. 𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙢𝙨 admired 𝙅𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣'𝙨 project from a distance and within the letter he sent to 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙅𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 on January 22 1825, 𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙢𝙨 specifically instructed 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙅𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 to not aquire or recruit any professors or tutors from Europe due to 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙢'𝙨 assertion that Europe is too prejudiced and filled with blasphemy for Europeans to be recruited. 𝑵𝒆𝒘𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆, 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒍𝒍, 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒕-𝒖𝒑𝒐𝒏 𝒃𝒚 𝑱𝒆𝒘𝒔; 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒘𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒑𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒕 𝒓𝒊𝒅 𝒐𝒇, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅" --- In context. Episcopalian and Presbyterian Christians in Europe often expressed very anti-Jewish sentiments. The Episcopalians and Presbyterians in America eventually deviated from this point of view.
