With Malaysia Open 2026 about to start, ushering in a new year and a new season, we take a look at every Malaysian player scheduled to compete in the tournament, offering some context and perspective on each of them. They are presented in no particular order.
2
Lee Zii Jia

Zii Jia will make his 5th career appearance at Malaysia Open. It will be his first time competing in the tournament ranked outside of Top 25. Despite missing most of 2025, he still enters the tournament as one of the most successful Malaysians of the World Tour era.
3
Teoh Mei Xing

In the last 10 years, only one Malaysian WD pair has reached the quarterfinals of Malaysia Open, and Mei Xing was part of that pairing. In 2022, Mei Xing & Anna Cheong upset the 2nd seeds, the world No. 3 pair at the time, to advance to the quarterfinals.
4
Chen Tang Jie

Tang Jie & Ee Wei will be the first Malaysian XD pair to compete at Malaysia Open as a Top 5 pair for two consecutive editions. In just 3 editions, they competed as a Top 5 pair for the first time last year, the fastest by a Malaysian XD pair in tournament history.
5
Thinaah Muralitharan

For the first time, Thinaah & Pearly will compete at Malaysia Open as the No. 2 WD pair in the world, their highest-ever career world ranking. Before 2026, only one Malaysian in the World Tour era has played at Malaysia Open while ranked No. 2 in the world.
6
Aaron Chia

Aaron & Wooi Yik are one of only two Malaysian MD pairs that have played every edition of Malaysia Open in the World Tour era. 2026 will be their 7th edition. They're also one of only three Malaysian MD pairs in the World Tour era that have reached the semifinals.
7
Lai Pei Jing

Pei Jing will be playing Malaysia Open with a 4th different XD partner in tournament history. Her former partnership with Tan Kian Meng is one of only 4 Malaysian XD pairs to have reached the semifinals of Malaysia Open, across both World Tour and Super Series eras.
8
Hoo Pang Ron

Pang Ron has played in 4 editions of Malaysia Open so far in his career, and each time with a different partner. This year's edition will be the first time he is playing with the same partner as in his previous appearance. Finally, some continuity in his career.
9
Lim Chiew Sien

Chiew Sien was one of the youngest Malaysians to ever debut at Malaysia Open, making her first appearance at just 16 years old in 2011. Last year's edition was her XD debut at Malaysia Open, and this year's edition will be her first time playing exclusively in XD.
10
Carmen Ting

Carmen & Xin Yee are poised to make their second tournament appearance at Malaysia Open. It will be their first time competing at the tournament ranked among the Top 32, which is the highest they have ever been ranked as a partnership going into the tournament.
11
Ong Yew Sin

Yew Sin & Ee Yi are the only Malaysian MD pair to reach 4 quarterfinals at Malaysia Open in the World Tour era. Not just 4 quarterfinals, but 4 in a row, 2022-2025. Not even in the previous Super Series era has a Malaysian MD pair appeared in that many quarterfinals.
12
Muhammad Haikal

Haikal will finally be playing his second ever Malaysia Open this year, after the 2022 edition when he partnered with Arif Junaidi. Last year, Haikal & Hon Jian were supposed to make their Malaysia Open debut as a pair, but had to withdraw due to injury.
13
Shevon Lai

Shevon & Soon Huat will be competing at Malaysia Open as a Top 10 pair for the 5th time. Only twice in history have they competed at the tournament outside the Top 10, and on both occasions, they were still ranked inside the Top 15. A remarkable level of consistency.
14
Man Wei Chong

Wei Chong & Kai Wun will become the 3rd Malaysian MD pair in the World Tour era to play at Malaysia Open as a Top 5 pair. If we also consider the Super Series era, they will be the 7th different Malaysian MD pair to compete in Malaysia Open as a Top 5 pair.
15
Go Pei Kee

Pei Kee has played 3 editions of Malaysia Open, and each time she was drawn to face the same player from China in the early rounds, always resulting in the same outcome. This year's edition will be the first time she won't have to face that player in the early rounds.
16
Nur Izzuddin

For the second consecutive time in their history at Malaysia Open, Izzuddin & Sze Fei will enter the tournament as a Top 10 pair and among the seeded pairs in the MD draw. They are also the only Malaysian MD pair to have won an S1000 title on the World Tour.
17
Toh Ee Wei

Ee Wei & Tang Jie made a good impression in their Malaysia Open debut by reaching the quarterfinals in 2023. By their 3rd edition, they reached their first Malaysia Open semifinal. Easily the best first 3 years at Malaysia Open by a Malaysian XD pair in the Open era.
18
Arif Junaidi

After their Malaysia Open debut as a pair in 2025, Arif & Roy King went on to have a breakthrough year: broke into Top 20 for the first time, won their first World Tour title, achieved a career high world ranking, and defeated their first Top 10 and Top 5 opponents.
19
Leong Jun Hao

Jun Hao finally made his Malaysia Open debut last year, which was just his 3rd overall S1000 tournament at that point in his playing career. This year, he will be heading into Malaysia Open as the country's No. 1 player for the first time in his career.
20
Tee Kai Wun

Last year, Kai Wun & Wei Chong finally made a breakthrough at Malaysia Open by advancing beyond the 1st round for the first time in 4 editions. They also reached the semifinals, the furthest any Malaysian MD pair has gone at Malaysia Open during the World Tour era.
21
Goh V Shem

V Shem was part of the last Malaysia MD pair to not only reach the final of Malaysia Open, but also to lift the MD title. V Shem & Lim Khim Wah were finalists and champions in 2014. It's been 12 years.
22
Pearly Tan

Pearly & Thinaah will be playing their 5th Malaysia Open. Their No. 2 seeding is the highest they've ever been seeded at this tournament. They are also only the second Malaysian WD pair in the Open era to be seeded among the Top 2 at Malaysia Open.
23
Jimmy Wong

Jimmy is set to make his tournament debut at Malaysia Open. It will be his first S1000 tournament as well. Currently ranked 26th in the world with Lai Pei Jing, he will be one of the highest-ranked Malaysian debutants in the tournament's history.
24
Goh Soon Huat

Last year, Soon Huat & Shevon finally made a breakthrough with their first quarterfinal and first semifinal at Malaysia Open. This year, they will become the only Malaysian XD pair to feature in every edition of the tournament since the start of the World Tour era.
25
Cheng Su Yin

When Su Yin made her first Malaysia Open appearance last year, she became the youngest and newest Malaysian XD player to debut at Malaysia Open in the last 6 years. This year's Malaysia Open will be her 5th S1000 World Tour tournament in her young career.
26
Tan Wee Kiong

Wee Kiong will be taking part in his 16th Malaysia Open this year, making him by far the most seasoned Malaysian player in the 2026 edition. His Malaysia Open history spans three eras: pre-Super Series, Super Series, and World Tour.
27
Soh Wooi Yik

Since 2022, Wooi Yik & Aaron have competed at Malaysia Open as a Top 6 pair. The upcoming edition will be their 5th consecutive year heading into the tournament among the world's Top 6. This year, they will compete with their highest ranking yet at Malaysia Open.
28
Goh Sze Fei

Sze Fei & Izzuddin will play their 5th consecutive edition of Malaysia Open. They are one of only 3 Malaysian MD pairs to have made it to the semifinals at Malaysia Open in the World Tour era, which is the furthest round reached by any Malaysian MD pair in this era.
29
Ong Xin Yee

When Xin Yee & Carmen made their Malaysia Open debut last year, they were the youngest Malaysian players in action at the tournament. It will be the same this year. For the second Malaysia Open in a row, they will again be the two youngest Malaysians in competition.
30
Choong Hon Jian

Hon Jian & Haikal are set to play their first Malaysia Open together, after missing out last year due to injury. For Hon Jian, it will also be his tournament debut in MD. He previously played Malaysia Open in 2022 as part of an XD pairing with Peck Yen Wei.
31
Teo Ee Yi

It will be Ee Yi & Yew Sin's first time since 2018 heading into Malaysia Open with a world ranking outside the Top 25. It will also be their second time competing in the tournament without being one of the Top 3 highest-ranked Malaysian MD pairs in the world.
