Meat 🆚 Plant-Based

Here's why BOTH sides are right:

The Meat VS Plant-Based debate remains one of the most heavily discussed in the nutrition space.

But the diet debate requires NUANCE which is often left out of the discussion.

In many of the biggest studies linking Meat-Eating with disease or death:

Variables such as:

→Unprocessed vs Processed Meat
→Pesticide Exposure
→Refined Grains
→Antibiotics
→Sodium

...are not controlled for.

There's a HUGE difference between a 100% grass-fed streak and a hot dog.

They might as well be entirely different foods.

Grain-fed cows:

Typically live in crowded feedlots where they are given hormones, antibiotics, and pesticide-smothered corn & soybeans.

Release more gases (because they aren't eating their natural diet) and require 100% more water than grass-fed cows.

Grass-fed cows:

Consume a natural diet, don't require antibiotics and hormones, and get plenty of sunshine and movement.

Have healthier digestive tracts that emit less gas, and contribute valuable topsoil that actually helps to REMOVE carbon from the atmosphere.

Plant-Based diets are very high in phytonutrients and antioxidants that may prevent cell damage and disease.

But many Plant-Based diets also require B-Vitamin and/or amino-acid supplementation to make sure all nutritional needs are met.

While some plants are high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants:

Some plants also contain "anti-nutrients" that bind and remove important nutrients from your body.

Plant-Based diets are lower in saturated fat, which has traditionally been linked with high blood cholesterol and heart disease.

But new research suggests saturated fat and dietary cholesterol from unprocessed meat doesn't contribute to arterial cholesterol OR heart disease.

"Plant-Based" has become a convenient term for food marketers to leverage to trick consumers into believing a food is healthy.

The truth is:

Many of the ultra-processed "plant-based" foods are horrible for you and many are produced by BIG MEAT producers.

So... Meat 🆚 Plant-Based?

Your overall dietary & lifestyle patterns matter more than any one food group.

It's more important to prioritize:

→Minimally/Unprocessed foods
→Giving your body breaks
→Nutrients over calories
→Exercise and sleep

The bottom line:

There's a spectrum of fruits & vegetables.

Some are healthy → some aren't necessary.

There's a spectrum of meats.

Your body NEEDS the essential amino acids & fatty acids found in healthy meats and seafood → but not the junk in processed meats.

You have to do what works for you.

I've tried both carnivore & vegan diets.

After 10 years of researching & experimenting:

I look, feel, and function at my best on a BALANCED seasonal diet that involves meats, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and NO ultra-processed JUNK FOODS.
