When you see Musk's attempts to promote a pro-Russian lunatic as president of Romania, don't go thinking he's attacking us just cause that's what happened to randomly catch his attention.

While this might come as a surprise, Romania plays a crucial role in Europe right now. 🧵

With offshore gas reserves of around 100 billion cubic meters which we are just about to start extracting by 2027, Romania is already the largest gas producer in a very energy hungry Europe, and plays quite the role in easing European dependency on Russia and the US.

Given the instability in and limitations of Bulgaria as well as the unreliability of Erdogan's Turkey, Romania's old navy comprised of 50 or so outdated ships, on paper as big as the Russian Black Sea fleet, is more or less the last thing NATO has in this crucial body of water.

Romania is the EU country to share the largest border with Ukraine, and, while you may not have heard much given the country chose to keep everything secret, plays a vital role when it comes to weapon deliveries to Ukraine, with an even bigger role played in Ukraine's exports.

While the army still has a great deal of catching up to do, it still represent one of Europe's largest and, surprisingly perhaps, right now one of its best funded ones, with some gargantuan acquisition programs silently started and (some) finalized in the recent years.

The country has EU's 6th largest population and the largest GDP in this corner of Europe, one roughly as big as that of all its neighbors put together, which I'm highlighting just in order to give an impression of what kind of an impact it could have on said neighbors.

Make absolutely no mistake, Elon Musk's attempts to install a pro-Russian puppet in Romania is more than just an attack on Romania, because if my country succumbs to Russian influence and control, so will all of South Eastern Europe, which I'm assuming is Musk's actual goal.
