This study also showed coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer.

Coconut oil boosts collagen formation.

These extracellular matrix proteins are vital for:

◇ Skin renewal

Coconut oil destroys the acne causing bacteria, P. Acnes.

Lauric acid, a unique fatty acid found abundantly in coconut oil, is responsible for these effects.

Lauric acid for the skin is great because it hits multiple species that are resistant to antibiotics.

Coconut oil regenerates the skin.

Here, coconut oil application was shown to improve the healing of the skin.

This was in part due to coconut oil's ability to increase blood vessel formation to the skin,

which supports the skin by supplying nutrients and oxygen.

Coconut oil is a potent antioxidant for the skin.

Various key antioxidant components:

USING TOPICAL COCONUT OIL:

The key here is to get a virgin coconut oil, as many of the benefits of coconut oil seem to be from the phenolic compounds that are more rich in the virgin varieties.

The main time you would not want to use it is if you are prone to acne / oily skin, as it can clog the pores.

However, as a moisturizer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and skin regenerating agent, it's awesome.

Typically, 5 mL (1 tsp) is applied to an area of interest for these effects.
