The Vedas call Surya: “Sakshi” - The Witness. Not because he judges. But because he sees. Kings rise and fall. Empires appear and disappear. Yet every dawn arrives to witness the story of humanity.
In the Gayatri Mantra, we do not merely worship the Sun. We meditate upon: “Tat Savitur Varenyam” The Divine Light behind the Sun. The physical Sun is a doorway. The real destination is higher consciousness.
Nothing in nature hides from sunlight. Likewise, nothing remains hidden from Truth. This is why Surya symbolizes honesty, clarity, and self-awareness. Darkness survives only in absence of light. Ignorance survives only in absence of wisdom.
The Mahabharata repeatedly associates Surya with Dharma. Why? Because Dharma thrives in transparency. The crooked fear light. The truthful welcome it.
Surya reminds us: Live a life that can stand in the open sky. Notice something remarkable. The Sun shines on everyone equally. Saint and sinner. Rich and poor. Friend and enemy.

But they never diminish its true nature. Surya’s chariot is drawn by seven horses. These are often interpreted as: The seven colours of light. The seven days of time. The seven levels of consciousness.
One Sun. Many manifestations. One Truth. Infinite expressions. That is why Surya Namaskar is more than exercise. It is a daily reminder: Rise. Shine. Serve.
Just as the Sun does every day without asking for applause. The greatest symbolism of Surya is this: He never stops giving. Every sunrise is an act of selfless offering. No expectation. No recognition. Only constant service to creation.
