The illusion of choice: Peru has 35 presidential candidates on today's giant ballot paper, but it's basically meaningless. They have the most extreme free-market model in region and it's impoverishing the population, but if you try to reform it you get couped (Pedro Castillo) ๐งต

They've had 9 presidents in 10 years and none of them achieved anything. The state is designed to be in constant electoral/political chaos so that it's always unable to touch the power of capital. Only solution would be a new constitution and shutdown all existing institutions.

As soon as the executive tries to implement any of the policies they were elected for - as Castillo tried to do - the corrupt parties in Congress, in alliance with the equally corrupt justice system, close ranks to nip any change in the bud. Castillo tried to stop them, couldn't.

And yes, these are the results of Peru's model. Despite years of consistent nominal GDP growth, the middle class is shrinking. Wealth all flows up to a tiny elite. Trickle up economics, and like 30 parties offering just more of the same.

The ridiculous hyper-fragmentation and shameless corruption from political parties is by design. To demoralise the population into accepting that nothing can ever change. Eventually this farce will end.
