Your Android says storage full. You delete everything. Still full. It is not your photos. Android has been quietly hiding gigabytes of junk you never see. 23GB cleared yesterday without deleting a single thing that mattered. Here is where it is hiding:

1/ App Cache Every app silently stacks temporary files. Settings > Apps > pick any app > Storage. TikTok alone was sitting at 4.7GB on my phone. Instagram 2.1GB. Chrome 1.2GB. Four apps, 10GB gone. Tap Clear Cache. Not Clear Data. Clear Cache only removes temp files. You stay logged in, nothing gets wiped.

2/ WhatsApp Folder File Manager > Internal Storage > Android > media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp. Every video, voice note, and photo ever sent or received is in here. That 8 minute voice note from two years ago. Still there. Sort by size and clear out anything you do not need. I pulled 6GB from this folder alone.

3/ Gallery Trash Deleting a photo does not delete it. It sits in trash for 30 days taking up the exact same space. Open Gallery, find Trash or Recently Deleted, tap Empty. I found 2.3GB of files I thought were already gone.

4/ Ghost Files From Deleted Apps Uninstalling an app does not remove its data. Android leaves everything behind in a hidden folder. File Manager > Internal Storage > Android > data Also check: Internal Storage > Android > obb Scroll through. You will find folders named after apps you deleted months ago. Delete them. They are leftovers Android never cleaned up.

5/ The Thumbnails Folder Android generates a preview image for every single photo and video on your phone and stores them in a hidden folder called .thumbnails inside your DCIM folder. In File Manager, enable Show Hidden Files then go to DCIM > .thumbnails. Mine was 2.8GB. Safe to delete entirely.

6/ Samsung Only Open your phone dialer and type: *#9900# A system menu called SysDump opens. Tap Delete dumpstate/logcat. This removes months of system logs and diagnostic files you never access. Nothing you use gets touched. Results vary but most people get between 500MB and 2GB back. Skip this if you are not on Samsung. The code does not work on other Android phones.

Total recovered without touching a single photo, app, or chat: → App cache: 10GB+ → WhatsApp folder: 3 to 6GB → Gallery trash: 1 to 3GB → Ghost files: 1 to 5GB → Thumbnails: 1 to 5GB → Samsung SysDump: 500MB to 2GB Send this to whoever gets the storage full notification every week.
