If you want fast flutter kickers, dolphin kickers, and underwater kickers, they all need to have snappy feet. The feet snap through at the end of every kick, which helps swimmers create more propulsion. But it’s not a conscious movement.

It happens because they have flexible ankles AND because they relax. They snap the kick down and they do so without a ton of tension through the lower leg. That allows the whip of the leg to directly influence the ankle, and that means more propulsion.
