Underwater kicking propulsion. A visual ๐งต. 1. Swimmers have to create a ton of propulsion if they want to go fast. It starts with using a full range of motion. Swimmers need to kick well in front of their body to maximize propulsion with the kick. Cont.

2. Swimmers have to accelerate through the kick, building acceleration to the finish. The more foot speed they can create, without sacrificing range of motion, the faster they go. Cont.

3. Throughout the kick, swimmers need to keep their feet oriented backward. To send themselves down the pool, they need to kick back and move water backward. Just like with the upper body, they need to hold water with the feet.

The hips are dependent on the shoulders in backstroke. The shoulders rotate to allow the arms to get into effective positions, and the hips rotate to allow the shoulders to rotate more.
