Persistence: The crowd will always tell you to stop. They cannot stand the sound of your clumsy beginning, the awkwardness of your attempts, the discordant noise that marks the infancy of skill. They want results without the rawness, mastery without the mess. They forget that every virtuoso once sounded like breaking glass. And so they say, “Stop, you’re not good at it.” What they mean is, “Stop reminding me of what I never endured, of the discipline I abandoned, of the greatness I never chased.” Your persistence is their indictment. Talent is not given, it is stolen from the hours you sacrifice, from the ridicule you endure, from the repetitions that grind you into something unrecognizable to your former self. The weak crave applause in the beginning; the strong court silence, mockery, and failure, knowing that mastery blooms only through persistence. If you stop, you will indeed never be good. And worse, you will become like them. A spectator. A voice in the crowd.
