In this study, “Muscle fiber typology substantially influences time to recover from high-intensity exercise” (Lievens et al., 2020), researchers showed that athletes with more fast twitch fibers experience greater strength loss after intense efforts and take far longer to

recover compared to those with more slow twitch fibers. From my perspective, you don’t need to obsess over the exact numbers here, it’s another reminder that athletes respond differently to training. Strengths and weaknesses, explosiveness versus endurance, training age and

individual fiber makeup all influence recovery and adaptation. Your strongest, most explosive athletes will often need more recovery than athletes who are less powerful or more endurance oriented. That’s why I emphasize individualization so much. If you train athletes, you

can’t just copy and paste a program…you have to adjust volume, rest, and intensity based on the person in front of you. This is exactly what I dive into in Speed Kills, how to structure recovery between sessions, how much rest you need between sprints, and how to combine

sprinting with lifting, jumping, and fitness work. It’s my most complete system and hands down the best product I’ve ever created. Link in bio. fredduncantraining.com/product/speed-…
