Todd Martin, president of Trinity Western University, denounces the activities of his son Geoffry Martin, known online as “Captive Dreamer”: Today I want to make something crystal clear…I reject white supremacy and any ideology that elevates one group of people over another. I denounce the use of derogatory and disparaging labels and language and any attempts to dehumanize another individual or group. I strongly oppose the use of social media as a means of spreading such harmful ideas. I feel for the father. What an amazing demonstration of how fake and pathetic online racism is. These people believe in “racial identity.” They think they have something in common with strangers on account of their race. Yet their worldview sickens their own parents. This is why they hide. They are outcasts in their own communities. No immigrant is more alienated from society than they are. Dr Martin seems like a decent man. None of us are responsible for the actions of our family members. He has behaved the same way anyone with a conscience would in this situation, and I sympathize with him. His son doesn’t seem reachable at this point, but hopefully he rethinks his life, and his story can serve as a warning to others.
