Molech. meta. Molech (Hebrew) literally means king, ruler, counselor, judge. Molech was the national god of the Ammonites and they would sacrifice their children in the fire to him. (Lev 18:21, 20:2-5; 1 Kings 11:7). The central dominating thoughts of the Ammonites is belief in carnality. Malcam is another name for this god. Metaphysically it represents the ruling of public opinion, and of the "mind of flesh" in one's consciousness. Essentially it's Vox populi, Vox Dei; which I've described as madness (see linked post below). Public opinion and the wild uncultivated states of consciousness that arise from its embrace they include sensuality, sin, and ignorance formed by giving precedence to the outer world. Careless disordered thinking weakens the positive, upbuilding power of the mind of Christ and opens the way for invasions of erroneous thoughts. Thoughts, just like people, of similar character congregate and form states of consciousness, just as people form organizations. Recall we've discussed how woman represents relationship with God, and children the thoughts and ideas of man. Children being sacrificed in the fire to this god signifies one's mental burning and destroying new ideas by letting fear of or deep regard for what other persons may think (public opinion), with the prejudices, customs, and desires of the outer man of flesh, rule in one's life to the extent that one refuses or neglects to give place and expression to these new and higher ideals. In relation to its literal meaning 'king' it is the setting up of the outer reasoning or thinking consciousness as king, thus giving it DOMINION in one's life. Worship of the idol Molech is worship of the intellect, or reason, directed entirely by the senses, by the prejudices, contemporaneous customs, and desires of the outer man. Those who are very zealous for an outward appearance of virtue or faith with no substance or connection to Christ in spirit worship Molech in truth.
