๐ Star Light, Star Bright | North Star!Katsuki, fluff, possibly drama, #bkdk #ktdk #bakudeku --- The first thing he sees is nothing at all. Pure darkness. And then he opens his eyes, and he is dazzled by the lights.

So many lights, as far as he can see, stretching out into the endless black. He's crouched, somehow sitting in the void. He spots a figure walking away from him, old and frail, glowing soft, white. Comforting but fading away.

"H-hey, w-wait!" He finds his voice, high-pitched and childish. He scrambles to his feet, but the figure doesn't look back, its light fading away into nothing. He was alone again, and he started to breathe fast.

All alone, who was he, what was his purpose? He brought his hands to his face and found that they were glowing that same soft white. He put his face in his hands and closed his eyes, and found that now, even though his first moment had been in darkness...

He would never again escape the light. "Child," a voice said, deep and echoing, startling him into looking up. A new figure stood before him. This figure had a long, pointed beard and a wizened face, with that same soft glow.

"Wh-who are /you/?" he questioned, his voice still so /childish/. A quiet chuckle. "I am Thuban. It is a pleasure to meet you, child of Polaris." The older man extended a hand to help him up. He reached out hesitantly and took it."Wait, who now? What am I, anyways? Who was that?"

Thuban chuckled again as he pulled the child to his feet. "So many questions for one so small." The child huffed, tapping his foot. "Come on, old man, /tell mee/!" He glowered up at Thuban impatiently.

"Patience is a virtue." was all that Thuban replied, and the child wrenched his hand away, crossing his arms in a pout. But, he went silent. And finally, Thuban spoke.

"You, young one, are the spirit of the star Polaris," Thuban explained. "The North Star, as I was before you." "Wow," the boy whispered, his eyes shining. "And who left?" "That was the last spirit of Polaris. It was his time, and you were born to replace him." Thuban replied.

"So...is my name 'Polaris'?" the boy asked. "That's a pretty lame name," he huffed. "That's the name of your star. You may take whatever name you so wish. The question is...who do you wish to be?" Thuban asked, tilting his head slightly to one side+

as he looked the boy up and down. "The best," the boy replied immediately. He had no idea where it had come from, but somehow he knew it was the truth. Thuban laughed aloud at that. "Such a spunky and bright young starchild you are. Perhaps the name..." Thuban considered.

The boy's eyes lit up, eager to hear the name. "...Katsuki. Victorious, is its meaning. Superior, as well, in Japanese," Thuban said. The young star spirit considered, and then Katsuki smiled. "I like that name," he said.

Thuban smiled warmly at the young star. "Well then, Katsuki. I am glad that I am the first to bid you welcome to the world." He inclined his head. Katsuki grinned. "So what's my purpose? What do I have to be the best at?" he asked eagerly.

Thuban put a hand on Katsuki's shoulder, and pointed off into the endless field of darkness. "There. Do you see the blue?" Katsuki squinted and could make out a faint blue pinprick. "Yeah...?" he said, confused. "Close your eyes." Thuban commanded.

Katsuki realized he didn't much like being told what to do, but then time he did as he was bade, shutting his eyes. "Okay, now what?" "Picture what you saw." Katsuki thought about the blue pinprick in the blackness. "Mhm."

"And now... listen." Thuban replied. Katsuki strained his ears, and suddenly was hit with a wall of sound, of whispers, all saying one thing:

"Star light, star bright First star I see tonight I wish I may, I wish I might Have this wish I wish tonight"

So many different voices. So many different languages, but somehow Katsuki could understand them. All begging for the same thing: a wish.

"Your job, young one, is to guide these voices to what they desire from you." Thuban said. "What, grant what they want?" Katsuki asked. "Well, of a sort. You, as the pole star, can only guide humans towards what the wish for. You cannot grant wishes like I can," Thuban replied.

Katsuki crossed his arms again and pouted. "That's no fair," he groused. "Ah, but you will come to love your duty. Pick a guiding wish, child, and grant it." Thuban said. Katsuki focused hard on the voices, and soon...heard a youthful one, just like his.
