Ek toh for this UPSC exam half the country's youth in it's prime age spends time mugging up random facts. Then the outcome of the process is 1. most people going back to their old career paths, losing few years 2. tiny fraction getting through only to turn into corrupt bureaucrats 3. even tinier fraction of that trying to remain honest and being transferred every year 4. steady stream of suicides from that pool of students Then some media company comes and "nostalgia-fies" this and mints money turning this into a template and churning out 5 different TV series out of it, which mostly is being watched by the same people who should probably not be watching TV but studying for the said exams 🤡
The British got us hooked to this archaic colonial process which we were thoughtlessly keep following and somehow celebrating. Other British colonies like Singapore have completely overhauled how Govt hires administrative service - they literally do placements like private companies, offer more competitive packages and privileges than any private company can afford to and literally gets the top pick from every university across the country. UK itself doesn't even follow such a dumb process for its own civil services anymore.
Look up the 2020 batch of IAS officers - what they are upto. You'll find more than half of then making silly reels on Instagram about how their car has curtains or how there is towel on their chair in some random musty office in random corner of India
So much discussion on this so far but not a single person contested the 4 bullet points. Safe to assume my conclusions of the outcome of the UPSC prep industry is both exhaustive and correct 🤷♂️
