10 Crypto Predictions For 2024. 🧵👇
Exactly one year ago, at the outset of 2023, I a published a thread outlining my crypto predictions for the year. Looking back, I got a lot right - but also a lot wrong.
Coinbase, $SOL and $BTC were indeed strong performers (and were somewhat contrary predictions at the time), but I miscalculated $ETH, was slightly too pessimistic on Q1/Q2, and the rest lie somewhere in the middle.
So why not throw my hat in the ring again, and attempt to make some predictions for 2024. Remember these predictions are based on current information, and as the year progresses - things are likely to change. But why not take a stab, and we can come back in a year and evaluate.
1. 2024 will be the biggest ever year for crypto airdrops. With LayerZero, zkSync, Manta, Linea, Wormhole, Cosmos eco and many more major airdrops drawing near, I'm expecting some massive airdrops this year. (my 2024 mega airdrop guide is coming this week)
2. $ETH will make a comeback vs $BTC. ETH, for the best part of 2023, bled against BTC. But I'm expecting a shift in sentiment as the ETH ETF gains traction, and the Dencun upgrade rolls out. Many are fading it, but I believe it will take people by surprise.
3. Regulatory pressure continues. Although the spot ETF + Binance settlement has somewhat put regulatory fears on the back-burner, I expect them to rear their head again at some point during the year. The SEC (and other major bodies) won't give up without a fight.
4. $BTC will drop 20% sometime during the year (likely first half). Although I'm expecting 2024 to follow a positive trajectory overall, it will have its rocky moments too. These moments will try and shake you out, but those who maintain conviction will be rewarded.
5. Crypto gaming sees its first blockbuster. After years of development and billions of dollars in funding, crypto gaming is ready for its first hit game (although it may not take off immediately) This will prove the model, and pave the way for increased interest in the sector.
6. The AI crypto sector continues to grow, and is home to a) some of the best performers, and b) some of the biggest token launches of 2024. It's a narrative that retail (importantly) can understand + has many exciting use cases which are yet to be explored.
7. Cosmos grows in dominance, and hosts some of the biggest new launches of the year. The more time has passed, the more bullish I've become on the Cosmos ecosystem. You can measure the success of this prediction via TVL/user market share.
8. Modularity + Parallelisation remain key trends for blockchain scaling, and will significantly to grow in adoption/utilisation. Modular: Celestia, Manta etc. Parallelisation: Monad, Eclipse etc.
9. #Bitcoin ordinals will be a top performing narrative this year. We're still super early here, but throughout the year I expect BRC-20 to feature as one of the strongest performing narratives.
10. DEX volumes increase vs CEXs. A combination of regulation, better DEX/wallet UXs and increased liquidity will lead to DEX volumes increasing vs their centralised counterparts.
So those are my predictions for 2024. It's set to be an exciting (and no doubt volatile) year, with tonnes of new trends emerging. I'm looking forward to coming back in a year's time and reviewing these predictions! Retweet the 1st Tweet below if you found these interesting.
