today's angsty thought is: teens wwx and lwj have to switch bodies for some reason (maybe as a way to break a curse, idk) and instead of trying to act like each other and fool their families, they just leave notes behind and pretend they're going on an investigation together.
lwj flat-out refuses to share a room so they stay in neighboring rooms at an inn in the town where the curse originated. at first it's all fun and games and shenanigans but when they retire to their own rooms at night, the Pining starts.
wwx initially has fun making expressions with lwj's face and laughing at them in the mirror. but he keeps catching glimpses of lwj in the mirror and, being wwx, he can't help his own eyes lighting up with joy and recognition. and, well, lwj would never look at him like that.
wwx can't recall a single instance where lwj was happy to see him. his memory is terrible, but not so terrible that he would forget a time when the beautiful second jade of lan didn't despise him. to see his own level of fondness on lwj's face feels masochistic.
it weirdly hurts to see lwj's reflection look back at him as if lwj actually Likes wwx. wwx spends an embarrassing amount of time just. gazing at the mirror. lwj is so beautiful. his eyes have tiny flecks of green in them. wwx never would have known.
what would it take, wwx wonders, for lwj's face to soften like this—to look at someone so openly? that someone would have to be very special. a rule-follower. talented in all aspects. beautiful. lwj may even love them. it would be a perfect match.
does wwx realize at any point that he, in fact, is the one making lwj's face make that adoring, longing look as he looks at lwj's reflection? nope.
meanwhile lwj is in a constant 1v1 death match with his personal sense of honor because he's in wwx's body (scream) so if he touches Any part of himself, he'll be touching (louder scream) wwx's body.
eventually lwj has to take a bath. he considers asking wwx to bathe him, since it is wwx's body after all, but then realizes that that would mean wwx touching him all over and lwj simply won't survive that. so he must bathe himself.
lwj tries closing his eyes during the bath but then that just makes him imagine touching wwx in the dark, so he forces his eyes to stay open and Look. and. wwx's sun-kissed skin is utterly entrancing. lwj touches it with both apprehension and reverence.
there are scars, too. lwj frowns as he traces his fingers over them. there are so many, and most are distinctively not from blades. what on earth has wwx gone through to receive such scars? he needs to take better care of himself—and since lwj is now in his body, he may as well.
so while wwx is in his room, questioning his emotions and sexuality, lwj is out and about in the market purchasing face creams and hair oil because oh my god wwx's skin and hair be DRY.
