A short thread on the connection between the Government and Jujutsu Tech 🧵

I realized most JJK anime-onlys are missing out an a lot on the politics between Jujutsu Tech and the Government

The manga goes deeper into the relation and gege is really good at setting up what the series is supposed to be very early that the anime is missing

for example, most didn't pick up the fact Jujutsu Tech is being referred to as a buddhist school because the government is covering up the fact its related to something the public cannot know about or else it would start an apocalypse since cursed spirits are born from fear

This in general is why jujutsu tech exists, its a government jujutsu tech is publicly funded by the national and prefectural governments to hide the publicity of cursed spirits to prevent societal terror.

Tengen also assists with the relation between Jujutsu Tech and the Government

Tengen's barriers trap cursed energy almost exclusively within Japan. Because of this, cursed spirits and Jujutsu sorcerers are incredibly rare in the rest of the world. This gives the Japanese government a massive, secret geopolitical monopoly.

The state protects Tengen at all costs within the Tombs of the Star because Tengen is the ultimate national security asset. If Tengen were to disappear or stop maintaining the barriers, cursed energy would bleed out across the entire globe, triggering a worldwide crisis and stripping Japan of its unique control over this power.

Another thing about the relationship between the government and Jujutsu Tech is the group of people referred to as "windows." they are low-level government workers, police officers, and medical examiners who possess low cursed energy.

They cannot fight or use techniques, but they can see curses and veils and reports them to the government so they reroute the case away from the public files, and hands it over to Jujutsu Tech.

Ijichi and Nitta actually have a function which is to handle the massive bureaucratic trail required to keep the public oblivious, ensuring no footage ever leaks to the media, this is why Ijichi is so skilled with Veil (and trusted by most)

The government is heavily affected by the Shibuya Incident, when Kenjaku destroys Shibuya and unleashes millions of curses, the Prime Minister and top cabinet officials vanish or are killed.

Reminder that Kenjaku released around 10 million Cursed Spirits

this is also why gojo was ordered to be sealed forever, with the old government crippled, the higher-up's take total control of what's left of the executive powers.

they immediately use official government channels to brand gojo an exile and make it a capital offense to unseal him, showing they can dictate national law when the civilian government fails

BTW i wanted to add something here, yaga was not killed for being an accomplice to gojo, he was killed for his "Mutated Cursed Corpses" (namely Panda) which a lot of you may know generally, but because of the politics of jujutsu high, similar to Gojo, the higher-ups will do anything it takes to get rid of unpredictable strong forces

the "Mutated Cursed Corpses" are fully sentient, has feelings, grows stronger over time, and generates cursed energy infinitely (panda actually generates cursed energy by eating as well), to the higher-ups panda is technically a unpredictable nation-level threat (similar to gojo in a way).

So because Yaga can make sentient beings that grow in cursed energy overtime and has the possibility to be a threat that was why he was killed

I wanted to elucidate something else here, when the US military gets involved during the Culling Games that is basically the shift from a secret domestic cover-up to an international geopolitical war, Kenjaku manipulates the US for the culling game.

When Kenjaku meets with the US Government, they provide them with custom glasses that allow normal humans to see curses

He also provides video footage of gojo and other sorcerers performing crazy feats, which causes a domino effect

Kenjaku frame sorcerers not as a threat, but as an alternative, infinite, clean energy resource. He convinces the U.S. government that the human brain of a Japanese sorcerer can be harvested to generate more energy than oil or nuclear power.

Kenjaku explicitly warns the President that if the U.S. doesn’t act fast, rival nations like China, Russia, and the Middle East will abduct Japanese sorcerers first and dominate the global energy market

this basically causes a FOMO effect, which makes the US do a illegal military operation inside Japan, deploying 800 elite soldiers directly into the barrier zones.

Their official mission is to abduct Japanese citizens who have awakened jujutsu techniques and transport them back to the US for human experimentation.

The entire invasion was a trap manipulated by Kenjaku for their gain

the intention wasn't to help the U.S. extract energy but rather gaining a much needed massive influx of human deaths inside the Culling Game barriers to flood the system with cursed energy

The U.S. involvement ends in an disaster, with the surviving troops completely routed and gives Kenjaku the boost needed for Tengen's Merge.

honestly im gonna conclude it here, I REALLY REALLY WISH WE GOT MORE GEOPOLITICAL STUFF... csm kinda has the same effect, america has a huge part on csm but we barely see it other than like yoru and joey's brothers

extra: btw this is why i made this thread, i honestly think mai got her tools from government-sanction rather than from the zenin clan since they dont give people they deem weak cursed tools (toji, maki) and she likely has like a rule like she cant go out publically or else it'd get taken away (because minors arent supposed to have guns [especially handguns] in japan)

extra: oh yeah btw there TECHNICALLY is a real life jujutsu tech in japanese history, its whats referred to as the Onmyōryō, which is government bureau established and peaked during the Heian Period

The government hired specialists called Onmyōji. Just like Jujutsu Sorcerers, their official civil service job was to read omens, manage calendars, perform divination, and cast state-sanctioned magical rituals to ward off evil spirits and plagues

The Onmyōryō even operated a highly restrictive, state-funded school to train young students in the occult arts before they became official government agents, exactly like the JujuTech Branches.

extra: The Kamo clan was an elite hereditary onmyōji family during the real heian period and historically commanded spirits/shikigami (which honestly makes me wonder why the zenin clan are the ones with ten shadows rather than them)

its most likely bc the kamo clan creator in the story (Emperor Sutoku, one of the big three vengeful spirits) has a story of him biting his tongue and writing a curse in his own blood on a scroll, vowing to become a demon that would overthrow the emperor and the nation
