Person: “Why does your vest that say ‘Deaf Cyclist’?”
Me: “To alert other riders that I cannot hear or react to them unless I can see them.”
Person: “But you’re not deaf. You’re talking to me right now!”
Me: “So that’s not…you know what, never mind.”
Residual hearing + powerful hearing aids + lip reading + calm environment directly facing the person I am talking to = I can generally hold a pretty normal conversation.
