Scouting report on Jérémy Jacquet

Jeremy Jacquet is 20 year old CB, playing for Rennes and French National team.
Standing at 190cm tall with quite lean and lanky build he looks like one of the best upcoming defenders in football.
Breaking down his profile comes down into multiple categories as he's a complete defender, modern one at that, something we call a rolls-royce CB on here.
Saying he excels in one thing or is weak in another couldn't be further from the truth, so let's dive deeper into his profile.

Physical profile
190cm tall, but very lean, agile, mobile with incredible recovery speed due to his long legs/strides and insane leaping ability.
We're not talking about protypical bulky, slow, unagile defender, quite the opposite. His frame allows him to win duels both aerially but also on the ground, to outrun or outjump opponents.
Recovery pace as I mentioned is one of his strong weapons which should make him suitable for highlines as he could potentially deal with dangerous transitional situations more effectively than vast majority of opponents.
Due to his frame, he doesn't look that strong, but he rarely gets bullied as he's reach and spacing are outstanding.

Defending, part 1
I usually divide defenders into space defenders, usually calmer defenders that are often better at covering for their CB partners, covering for fullbacks, tracking crosses well, anticipating runners and loose balls - but overall these defenders often fall into category of box defenders as they lack the athleticism/pace for aggressiveness and aggression in their defending.
Another category is tailored made if you want to describe Jeremy Jacquet.
Athletic, aggressive, leaping monster, recovery pace for days, capable of dealing tight space manipulators as well as pacey dribblers out wide.
These defenders tend to anticipate passes before they happen, run out in front of the receiver, intercept, disrupt the play and be annoyance for opposing forwards.
Jacquet's extremely long legs and aggressiveness allow him to chase attackers anywhere on the pitch where he's likely to win the ball back by outdueling them or putting in a tackle that's VERY SPECIFIC - capable of tucking his leg inside or around the attacker, bending it at 90 degrees angle and poking it out while keeping the hold of the ball.
This type of tackling is very rare and when you pair it with how quickly he approaches you and from how far away he's capable of tackling you - good luck dealing with him.
This aggressive style also make him incredible at intercepting attacks, his timing and feel for the game is superb - one of the best aggressive defenders I've seen in recent times.

Defending, part 2
Just because Jacquet is elite wide and pro-active defender doesn't mean he isn't composed and calculated, equally solid as a box defender - because he is.
His positioning and reading of the game lets him be at the right time in the right place to block shots, block passes, crosses, but also clear out any loose balls.
His wide frame, long reach allow him to spread out and relatively easily connect with passes, crosses that would otherwise be impossible to reach - this is also helped by his mobility as he has great coordination, quick feet and is able to move and adjust in short time frames.
He's very good at keeping track of runners, following them and dealing with the danger.

Aerial ability and aerial presence
As I mentioned before, Jeremy Jacquet is 190cm tall with stupidly high leaping ability, he can jump incredibly high - probably helps being built like an NBA pro player with long legs and relatively thin calves.
This leaping ability more often than not gets him higher than most players could dream of reaching, but he also follows it up with quick run up as he likes to attack the ball, times his jump relatively well and he's not one of those that get lost in search of the ball while it's in the air - his spatial awareness and tracking off the ball is solid.
His heading ability is good, wouldn't call him elite header of the ball, but when it comes to defensive aerial duels, he's clean.
With that, this same lean build and frame can go against him, I don't sense the same "aura" in the air from him as I do with your Van Dijks, Salibas or even Vuskovic who I wrote about earlier - this can be due to him being somewhat picky of the aerial duels he gets into but also for being slightly "fragile" in the air - he can get off balanced by bigger, stronger opponents from jumps from standing positions.

Build up, carrying from the back
His long strides and solid ball control definitely help him when it comes to running with the ball.
He eats ground quickly, allowing him to take the ball from his backline into the midfield from CB positions or in wide positions where he likes to drift.
His carries often go into central areas even if they start out wide, but he's capable of hitting passes in full strides into the midfield or behind the backline - he has solid balance and doesn't need to approach the ball with few tiny steps just to hit it while running.

Passing range
One outstanding aspect of his game is definitely his long passing.
He's very comfortable hitting all kind of passes from either left or right CB position - long, sharp and powerful switches, floaty lob passes skipping past few players, pinpoint passes behind backline or sharp low vertical passes into his forwards and advanced players.
While his passing accuracy, weak foot passing still need polishing, eye test show a player with incredible passing ability - someone well worthy of playing in a team that relies on his passing ability.

Summary
As you can probably tell, the hype is well worth it.
Jeremy Jacquet is one of the best young defenders around and one of the best CB prospects I've seen in a long time.
He has extremely high base level as a 20 year old- being versatile to play in any system, playing any style and looking incredible while doing so.
My comparison for him is modern day Lucio as they share similar builds, similar aggressive style of play while being impressive with the ball and very fast (Lucio was faster tho).
There's no doubt he has all the tools to be one of the best in his position for years to come.
