The latest chapter made it obvious that CSM may end with an overall Anti-American message, which is warranted because corruption wise, this country is historically one of the worst.

Before I start the thread, I am not saying Denji himself is black, read the whole thing. If you’re not willing to think critically don’t read further.

All devils throughout the story are seen as evil by society simply due to the fact that they’re devils, which makes sense because many of them are dangerous monsters

Most of the hybrids are from different countries and are presented as “othered” due to their complex identities.

Even fiends are represented as oppressed individuals from their sexual orientation, to their physical appearance, and even social status. Yukos transition from human to devil highlights the idea of devil identity being one that comes with discrimination.

Fiends and Hybrids represent “othered” people in societies. Some Pure Devils fit into this theme as well but they are represented to be actual monsters for the most part.

The public doesn’t see the difference between the monsters and human-like “devils” (fiends & hybrids), even when being saved by them (Denji/Chainsaw Man).

In the context of the story, Pochita is Black, both literally and figuratively. His true form is a pretty simple design, being Black with a chain around his neck.

This may be a direct reference to enslaved people in general, but Kunta Kinte specifically, as he is seen as the symbol of historical conversations around slavery/black liberation.

When looking at the concepts Pochita erased they all seem targeted, WW2 and Nuclear weapons for the danger they pose to humanity and Pochita has been shown to be Pro-Human many times.

Nazis and AIDS are the only other real concepts that were erased. Both concepts have ties to Anti-Blackness with AIDS disproportionately affecting Black communities.

Pochita, like Kinte, is meant to be a representation of dehumanization and bring light to humanities treatment of “devils”. He fights against the actual monsters of the world despite being irrationally feared, which will be explored later.

Now, you may read that and think ???, but there are a few aspects of Chainsaw Mans story that help support this.

In recent chapters, we’ve been shown many Black Americans in the CSM universe. I think Fujimoto is foreshadowing a further criticism of America/society as a whole and the perception of Black people.

Another supporting factor to this theory is Whip Hyrbid. She talks about how she’s a “superior specimen”, “chosen by god” and laughs at Miri who is a victim of church propaganda.

She’s 82 years old which is how long ago the Red Summer was in the CSM universe (1999). It’s a strange age for it to be a coincidence. Whip definitely has ties to this event which we’ll probably learn about later in the story.

Religion was historically used by slave owners to control enslaved black people. In Denjis fight with Spear and Whip, we see how he rejects the ideals of the church.

Historically, White Americans used to eat Black Americans. The fight focuses on Denji cannibalistic nature in how (similar to Pochita) he attacks a concept that has ties to Anti-Blackness.

Of course, Denji isn’t thinking like this during the fight, but his rejection of Church ideals is highlighted through his “twisted” morality of eating others, which is ironic considering Whips history.
