Circadian biology is the master regulator of all anti-cancer processes in the body

Through this, we understand that the demonization of sunlight, along with the lack of discussion about artificial light at night and circadian disruption, creates rising cancer rates

Here’s all the evidence you need

Virtually all major anti-cancer processes are either directly or indirectly controlled by circadian biology

Some processes might seem less dependent on circadian rhythms at first glance

But it inevitably comes full circle
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
Anti-cancer processes that are strongly circadian controlled include:

1. Apoptosis (cell death)
2. Autophagy (cellular cleanup)
3. DNA repair cycles
4. Immune surveillance
5. Antioxidant defense systems
6. Detoxification
7. Tumor suppressor genes (like p53)
8. Cell cycle checkpoints
9. Epigenetic regulation
10. Angiogenesis inhibition

All of these rise and fall rhythmically in sync with circadian biology (via the master clock in the SCN) or peripheral clocks in organs and cells
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
1. Apoptosis (Programmed Cell Death)

This is the body’s natural mechanism for removing cancerous cells, which is controlled by circadian genes like BMAL1 and PER2, which regulate p53 (the “guardian of the genome”)

Circadian disruption destroys apoptosis, allowing cancer cells to survive
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
2. Autophagy (Cellular Housekeeping)

This process clears out damaged organelles and misfolded proteins, preventing cancer initiation

Circadian clock genes (CLOCK, BMAL1) regulate autophagy-related proteins like LC3 and Beclin-1

Circadian disruption destroys this
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
3. DNA Repair Cycles

The body repairs mutations and DNA damage from oxidative stress, radiation, and toxins

Key DNA repair genes (XPA, PARP1) are circadian-controlled

Endogenous melatonin enhances DNA repair, and its suppression (from sunlight deficiency and isolated blue light at night) increases mutation rates
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
4. Immune Surveillance

Natural killer (NK) cells and cytotoxic T-cells actively detect and destroy cancer cells

Immune function peaks at night, regulated by endogenous melatonin and cortisol rhythms

Circadian disruption leads to a dramatic reduction in NK and T-cell activity, increasing cancer risk
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
5. Antioxidant Defense Systems

These endogenous systems protect cells from oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction

Both forms of melatonin are the most powerful mitochondrial antioxidants, and their synthesis is directly controlled by circadian rhythms + tied to the light and dark cycle

Glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) peak at night, reducing DNA damage
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
6. Detoxification Systems

All this talk about detox, yet the liver’s detox pathways (CYP450 enzymes, glutathione conjugation, methylation) are circadian-regulated

Melatonin enhances detoxification of carcinogens like xenoestrogens, heavy metals, and glyphosate

Another win for NIR light during the day and darkness after sunset
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
7. Tumor Suppressor Genes

p53 (“guardian of the genome”) prevents mutated cells from turning into cancer

All of these genes are circadian controlled. BMAL1 and PER2 enhance p53 activation

Circadian disruption suppresses p53 and others, allowing cancer cells to grow unchecked
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
8. Cell Cycle Checkpoints

The role here is to prevent uncontrolled cell division (a hallmark of cancer)

Circadian genes regulate cyclins (like Cyclin D1, p21) that control cell division

Circadian disruption leads to unchecked cell proliferation, increasing tumor risk
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
9. Epigenetic Regulation

This controls gene expression without altering DNA sequences

Histone modifications, DNA methylation, and microRNAs (miRNAs) follow a circadian rhythm

Oncogene activation and loss of tumor suppressors occurs via circadian disruption
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
10. Angiogenesis Inhibition (Blocking Tumor Blood Supply)

Hypoxia-inducible factors (HIF-1Îą), which control tumor blood vessel formation, are under circadian control

An increase in HIF-1Îą via circadian disruption leads to tumor vascularization
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
We can continue, but you get it now

Every anti-cancer defense mechanism is under circadian control

Following a lifestyle (modern default life) which creates circadian disruption accelerates cancer growth

Being in circadian alignment enhances natural anti-cancer immunity

This is one of the many reasons why I do this work and continue to be astonished by it
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
Whenever you hear people claim that melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers are caused by sunlight exposure, consider this thread

This perspective doesn’t hold up when examined through a firs principles circadian lens with a comprehensive understanding of the research

The centralized narrative holds no weight under this level of scrutiny

It’s a house of cards
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
Think about the recommendations provided by centralized dermatology

“Avoid UV from the sun”

“Avoid developing a natural tan”

“Wear sunglasses”

“Wear sunscreen”

“Stay indoors”

In the most freakish twist of events, they’re putting you in the crosshairs of all cancers, including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
Their recommendations directly interfere with your circadian health

They actively encourage you to spend more time in an environment that increases your risk of cancer development through circadian disruption

All while fear mongering you away from the source of energy that will offer you the most protection against cancer development

This is some twisted shit
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
Do you ever hear your local dermatologist raving about avoiding isolated blue light and circadian disruption?

Have they once uttered anything about circadian biology and these anti-cancer processes?

Of course you haven’t

We call this iatrogenic intervention created by a warped, reductionist view of the sun and human biology
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
Here’s what really does it for me

Most, if not all, cancers continue to rise, especially melanoma and non-melanoma skin types

Yet, what are people doing day to day?

Avoiding the sun, following the sun “protection” protocols, and literally spending more than 90% of their time indoors under isolated blue light, all while experiencing chronic circadian disruption

Riddle me that
Zaid K. Dahhaj
@zaidkdahhaj
These poor souls have little to no chance of preventing various forms of cancer because their lifestyle chronically disrupts the very endogenous circadian systems designed to protect them from cancer development

And what I fucking hate is that many of the so-called “medical professionals” are making it worse through their myopic and dangerous recommendations
