Details of Assad’s last moments in power.

*Hours before he left, told 30 army and security chiefs that Russian help was on the way
*Didn’t tell his brother Maher he was leaving, the leader of an elite army unit
*Did not tell two of his cousins. They tried to escape to Lebanon, while driving one was shot and killed, the other wounded
*Told his office staff he was heading home on Saturday night, was actually going to the airport to escape
*Told his media adviser to come to his house to write a speech, she arrived and found he was already gone

This might be the most cowardly fall of a dictator in history. Just complete indifference to everyone that relied on and believed in him for a quarter of a century, the hundreds of thousands who killed, died, and were wounded on his behalf. Not to mention the western rightists who made a hero out of him.

No wonder he’s been radio silent. What can a man like this say to the world?
