"lack of humanity"

there's a reason people compare the current reaction to ai art to how 19th century painters reacted to the invention of the camera.

it's utter reactionary nonsense. likewise, generating an image uses the same amount of electricity as a computer does in two minutes, and it produces about as much pollution as driving a car six meters. online gaming and photoshop uses more.

ai's power usage isn't that significant. big scary electricity numbers tied to ai are 1) dwarfed by most household appliances, let alone industrial production. and 2) hard to pin solely on ai since datacenters handle many tasks, including, the internet.

neither can anything ai art does be considered plagiarism because ai art models do not contain or reproduce any images whatsoever. this is people not understanding how the technology works.

jobs disappearing is bad but that's every technological advancement ever. this technology being used with no consideration for the planet or its workers is bad, but that's a symptom of our economic system and not in any way unique to ai art or any other technological innovation.

@Tharizdun03
obviously. i don't like studio executives replacing artists with "ai" (i support unionization and industrial action) but it is simply not a unique feature of ai but just the nature of *any* technological advance under capitalism.

likewise going "but copyright" and acting on that is harmful, because all that does is put the power of generative ai in the hands of those who own the copyrights (it's not the artists!!)

the solution to this is not to oppose all advances in technology forever (and especially not in harmful ways). the solution is to change the economic system under which technologies are used for profit rather than our wellbeing (and that of the planet we live on).
