1 Cor 6 3
Psalm 82 gives people a lot of trouble but I'll attempt to break it down here
6I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
Men were never meant to die. Adam was created as an immortal being in the image and likeness of God. Rightfully, Adam before the fall could be called a god (lower case). He is immortal, has full dominion on earth but is still (and always) subordinate to the Father .
When Satan lied to Eve and said 'ye shall be as gods', they already were, this subtil serpent trick to introduce envy of something that was already inherit in man precipitated the fall. This is also why God would have considered the sons of Seth sons of God and why he instructed Moses to write it that way.
They shall fall like one of the princes... who could that be? Satan and the ones he took with him. And indeed that's exactly what happened, we fell with them. Though Adam was on earth and made of earth the breath God blew into Him was of heaven. Before the fall Adam's spirit was in the high place, Zion before Zion.
The confusion comes in because our modern idea of the word gods (lowercase) has been warped by the thought forms (egregores) of the many false gods of the heathens and pagans. To mean beings with supernatural powers and control over the elements. That's God, and there's only one.
If you can't die, can't get ill, don't age, are you really human? This does not mean we ever become the Father, the Bible is clear on that, but faith is adoption into sonship, what do you think that means? Sons are of the same substance of the Father always.
