an au where chu wanning stumbles across mo ran before he encounters him half-dead in the snow and he takes mo ran in. the two of them then grow up together, mo ran developing a less than healthy obsession towards chu wanning, the only person who's ever shown him true kindness.
huaizui is very cautious of mo ran from the start. while chu wanning sees a child who's been treated so badly by the world, huaizui is a lot more skeptical. he doesn't particularly like mo ran, mostly due to how mo ran is taking away chu wanning's focus.
chu wanning is supposed to be getting stronger for huaizui's own selfish gain. not spending time with a child he'll never see again. it throws a wrench into huaizui's plans, especially when he sees just how protective mo ran is over chu wanning.
and mo ran would be very suspicious of huaizui, and how he doesn't want chu wanning to have interactions with the world outside wubei temple. he wonders why huaizui is so adamant on keeping chu wanning so locked up and away from what goes on outside.
i'm thinking about how mo ran would react when huazui tells chu wanning to cut out his core. how he'd be so enraged and nearly attack the man on sight for making chu wanning do such a thing. he'd be livid.
he'd definitely tell huaizui a lot of horrid things but the most painful thing he'd tell him is that he never deserved chu wanning. and chu wanning would be shocked because no one, not even huaizui, made him so important in the sense of him being his own person.
then both of them would leave and i think it'd be cool to explore how chu wanning develops if mo ran was always at his side. maybe he's not as rigid and as cold because mo ran is there as a constant reminder of how the world isn't as bad as it seems.
...now i kind of want to write this.
