There was nothing suspicious about the book your big
sister gave you for your birthday. A cheerful motley cover with a smiling pup, enthusiastic blurbs about how influential the author was.
You'd never heard of the store : 'Cognito-hazard books inc'. The name was a bit weird, but you were so happy that your big sis was not gifting you something really inappropriate (like last summer's matching dildo tail and pet collar) you didn't look any farther.
"Doesn't sound like your usual type of book" you remarked after you opened the wrapping paper.

The book was definetely captivating. You'd only planned to read a few lines before bed, but right after opening it, it was like the world melted away. It was the story nameless character who finds a very dangerous book they can't put down that slowly erases their personality...
... in a very post moderny twist, the character never realizes what is happening to them because they're completely convinced they're just reading about it in the book within a book. The more they read, the more self awareness they lose, the more they get reprogrammed...
... the more they start to forget they were ever human, memories overwritten, behaviours implanted, the more they start to believe they were always a dog, a very good doggie, who never was anything other than the best doggie in the world for their... your big sis.
(You roll your eyes a little when you notice the change of pronouns in the middle of the story. That kinda "mise en abyme" is soooooo overdone. Still not enough to make you put the book down, you have to know how the story would end.)
After the book is done taking, the book starts giving. New memories, being raised from pup by your wonderful big sister. Being taught everything a good dog must know, fetching, catching, obeying orders without thinking, offering yourself for breeding whenever your mistress wants
And most of all LOVE. SO MUCH LOVE ! The book fills your empty little mind with all the love in the world for your one true mistress, your big sis, your mommy, your owner.
The only one in the world to really understand you, the one who gifted you this wonderful book because she knows what's best for you, because you're her forever doggy, always have been and always will be.

The book falls from your now very clumsy paws, just as you reach the last page. You look around you and for a second you are scared. It's dark outside, for some reason you are wearing very uncomfortable human clothes and not your precious collar your big sis gifted you...

The birthday book lay abandoned on the floor, you've already forgotten all about it or that this was once your room, by the time your big sis shuts the door. You happily follow her to her room and to your new life, your head blissfully full of doggy thoughts.
