oh no what if the big labs can’t easily recoup all of their capex on massive data centers and some of the buildout capacity gets offloaded to other providers who deliver it to the long tail of enterprises with a software stack for serving and continually improving open models

imagine how terrible it’d be if actors like pfizer and goldman sachs and walmart and disney had their own private frontier models

maybe the absolute topline growth of intelligence would slow to the rate of multi-entity coordination or incentives of chip-layer companies commoditizing their complements. google would have to open-source gemini if they wanted to sell more TPUs. more of a measured takeoff :(

instead, we’d have capabilities concentrated in the hands of domain experts who have the highest-quality data. leading biotech companies would be able to train models with highly advanced bio capabilities. can they be trusted?
