How do you guys theorize mai was able to make the split soul katana without directly knowing what it is?

Theres a high chance she doesnt even know what it was since maki and mai dont even know toji, so her knowing the split soul katana is pretty interesting.

my answers to some theories:

1. Mai somehow knew of the weapon through clan history despite never seeing it

A: If mai knew of the weapon through clan history, how? I could see the clan keeping written accounts of the weapons but i just dont understand why Mai would know, the most i can understand if it was her eavesdropping, since thats also how she knows about the twins as one being.

However Toji stole the weapon SO long ago i just cannot see anyone bringing that up in the future, the most I can see is Naoya bringing it up (because he idolizes him), but i just dont see why he would tell Mai about it especially since most of the clan doesnt know something as specific as Toji stealing a weapon (unless the split soul katana is their most powerful)

2. Construction can create things based on a conceptual understanding rather than direct observation.

A: The split soul katana is hyperspecific, it's a katana that attacks the direct soul, i just feel like its TOO specific especially to someone like mai, her knowing the importance of the soul attack rather than piercing directly is just super convenient imo (it'd be understandable if it was someone like yuji, but she barely fights.)

What made her not want to make a Katana tthat directly attacks the soul? why not one that nullifies cursed energy or has some other unique ability? it feels really specific but works extraordinarily well.

Maybe its because she learned the importance of the soul through her being a twin and she kinda conected the dots like maybe if the soul was directly attacked that would result in better fighting? but im not sure

3. The sword isn't literally a perfect recreation of Toji's weapon, but a new cursed tool with the same properties.

A: If its a new cursed tool with the same properties I would expect it to look a little different in a way, of course gege would use the same weapon for simplicity, but in logic you would expect it to look a little different.

If its just something mai made up without knowing about the weapon itself and was just like "ok make me a sword that directly attacks the soul" then it would definitely have SOME type of different look, but no it looks the exact same.

4. Gege prioritized symbolism over explaining the mechanics.

A: Gege prioritizing symbolism is the most likely answer imo because he always does that, the name itself is symbolism.

"Split Soul," essentially Maki and Mai are technically a split soul in themselves, twins are one, and perfect prep is arguably the most symbolic arc in the entire manga

- Maki inherits the weapon associated with freedom from the clan
- Mai dies so Maki can become complete
- The twins stop being "one person."
- The Clan is Destroyed

From a symbolic standpoint, giving Maki the Split Soul Katana is perfect, the sword called Split Soul Katana is created at the exact moment a split soul becomes whole.

The weapon feels less like a random cursed tool and more like the final physical manifestation of the twins relationship
