Gunfire erupts inside the Philippine Senate 🇵🇭
A volley of more than a dozen gunshots broke out inside the Senate building during a tense standoff involving Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
The former national police chief under Rodrigo Duterte has been holed up in his Senate office under protective custody since Monday to avoid an ICC arrest warrant for crimes against humanity related to the “war on drugs.”
Initial reports indicate agents from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) attempted to enter the premises and opened fire as they withdrew.
The former President Duterte was arrested last year and is currently detained at The Hague awaiting trial.
