Physical profile
▫️187cm tall, great balance, quick feet and good mobility
▫️Strong, bulky upper body
▫️Strong, somewhat lanky legs
▫️Quick reactions for a CB, relatively good agility
▫️Superb jumping ability, gets really high with ease
▫️Above average pace, decently explosive first step
▫️Can keep up with faster players even out wide
🚩Even though he's bulky, he's not dominant in duels
➕His athletic profile, good pace and physical tools means he can learn how to use his body better
➕Opponents always feel his presence, he's not afraid of getting into physical battles

Defending
🔹Good balance of proactive defending and reactive defending - proactive sweeping no nonsense defender
🔹Has very good anticipation, tracks the ball well and isn't afraid of stepping out of the backline to cut out passes and block passing lanes
🔹Good pace, reaction time and mobility allows him to stay with most attackers and recover in time even if he gets baited to bite
🔹No nonsense defender = meaning clearing the danger is #1 priority, doesn't matter how
🔹Positive use of tackling, especially when doing so to block shots, passes, crosses
🔹In 1v1s he uses bis body to off balance the opponent, but bites often on most fakes (luckily usually he can recover well)
🔹All these attributes means he can play out wide, either as a wide CB in 3CB formations
🚩Being aggressive and front-footed is a double-edged sword, frequently steps out which means there's huge free space to expose
🚩Can be overly aggressive and uncontrolled with his tackles, often looking raw, unpolished with questionable decision making
🚩Gets bullied in hold up situations, especially against bigger players - doesn't know what to do in such situations and quite often looks very poor

In possession
🔸Rayo is a middle of the pack team with good balance of positional attacks and counter-attacks
🔸Nobel Mendy is not the main CB when it comes to playing out of the back for his team, Lejeune is.
🔸He's a relatively straight-forward type of CB = ball is faster than a player and he sticks to that
🔸Not a massive ball carrier, usually tries to do just enough to get himself open as he's not overly confident with the ball to attempt many progressive carries
🔸Passing range is quite impressive, looks for a lot of diagonal long passes and switches (left to right)
🔸Passing technique is solid, tends to hit relatively low, sharp and powerful passes with decent accuracy
🔸Passing variety ends with some passes down the sideline over the top of the defenders
🚩Can look clumsy with the ball
🚩Not a line-breaking passer, doesn't take many risks
🚩Despite his solid passing technique, it still lacks consistency and polish, often resulting in inaccurate passes
🚩Weight of the pass is often a second thought

Aerial duels
▫️Outstanding jumping ability
▫️Commanding presence when unchallenged in his own half
▫️Offensively he attacks crosses well, powerful header and a goalscoring threat from set pieces
⚖️Can have issues when assessing the trajectory of the ball
⚖️Timing can be sometimes problematic
🚩Easily off-balanced and outmuscled in 50-50 aerial duels
🚩Can be caught ball watching, late to react and attack the cross in his own box
Some footage of aerials in next tweet 👇

Summary of areas to improve
🚩Better usage of his physicality in duels
🚩Better decision making on when to step out of the backline
🚩Ease down on aggressiveness and more control when tackling
🚩Improve the defending against hold up play, especially against taller and bigger opponents or at least know when to back down to cover the space instead of contesting everyone
🚩A lot of work with the ball, try to improve technically
🚩Polish the passing game and gain composure when pressed
🚩Be braver with the ball, carrying and passing wise
🚩Work on balance when jumping and contesting aerials (less awkward bent over jumps and more commanding presence)
🚩Work on timing and judging the trajectory of the ball
🟩 Most of this will probably get better with experience, with a move to a better team that will give him more responsibility - especially in build ups.
Next tweet will show his matchup against Alvaro Rodriguez and Elche, as well as some of his mistakes and flaws I mentioned previously.

Summary
Nobel Mendy is a good young CB with potentially high upside if he can work on improving his game and polishing it.
The mix of proactive defending, good physical tools and quite solid long passing game means he could be a very good fit for a lot of teams looking for that aggressive defender who can thrive in highlines, defending out wide or just being a box defending machine.
As of right now I think he's really raw, struggles with consistency, decision making and handling players who are not smaller than him.
As previously mentioned, his physical tools make for a very strong base and high floor, but considering his aggressive playstyle it's important to improve on decision making if he wants to become a player for CL sides.
