Scouting report on Nathaniel Brown

Nathaniel Brown is superb athlete, he's really quick, agile, most important he's capable of covering the whole flank on his own both defensively and offensively.
He recorded top speed of 35.78km/h in Bundesliga this season.
Has capacity for large amount of intensive runs and sprints throughout 90mins.

Even if he has a bit smaller frame, his dueling style enables him to win a lot of duels with very high efficiency (above 60% since the start of last Bundesliga season)

This season in Champions league he wins 8 duels per match at stupidly high 86% success rate.

Offensively this pace and engine allows him to be a threat with his overlapping runs at any given time.

In the final third he makes smart decisions, reads the space well and knows how to tuck inside, when to hold the width and when to run behind.
Really versatile offensively, very good on the ball, capable of creating space for himself and creating for others with passing or dribbling - even if I do think his dribbling needs bit more work.

He's so good offensively that Eintrach have used him across all positions on the left side:

LB in 4 at the back formation
LWB in 3 at the back formation
LM - left wide midfielder in more classic formations with Theate behind him (4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2)
LW - he's been used as left wing as well in 4-3-3 as well

His intelligence allows him to thrive across all of them.

His vision of the game, decision making on the ball and great work ethic make him one of the first names on the playersheet for Eintracht Frankfurt.

4 goals and 9 assists in 39 starts since start of the last season shows he's also highly productive player.

One of the guys I compared him with is Manchester City's Ait-Nouri who produced 5 goals and 9 assists but in 52 starts.

The reason for that comparison is their frame, intensity, athleticism and ability in final third.

But big difference between Nathaniel Brown and Ait-Nouri comes in their defending where Brown completely outclasses Ait-Nouri and pretty much majority of other LBs in Europe.

Defensively Nathaniel Brown is truly one of a kind type of player.

He doesn't shy away from traditional 1v1 fights against dribblers, he actually takes pride in them and man is he effective in such situations.

Statistically he's been the best defensive LB in 1v1 situations since the start of the last season.
Winning 77% challenges against dribblers.

This is extremely high success rate and is one of the reasons why my first and best comparison for him has been modern day Ashley Cole.

PL fans are familiar with their league's best LB of all time and arguably one of the best defensive LBs in all the history of the sport.

While it's too early too put Brown in such conversations, stat-wise and eye-test wise he looks like a superb defender which is a rarity today.

Due to amount of support he provides offensively he does tend to leave some spaces behind and that can get him caught out of position but usually he tracks back and his recovery pace is superb so it's not a major issue.

But he definitely has room to improvement in staying focused throughout 90s in regards to far post crosses, late box runs.

Aerially he's a liability at this moment in his career as he doesn't compete all that much in the air and his small frame doesn't provide him with any presence at all so that's a weakness in his game that can be exposed and worked on.

Overall I expect Nathaniel Brown to quickly become one of the best LBs in football.

His skillset and performances already put him very high in my personal ranking for LBs - but it's his mentality that makes him so damn good.

A player who's willing to give his all for the team, someone who looks forward to facing the best dribblers and giving them hell and then still having the energy to get up and hurt them is a mentality that will get him far.

It's only a matter of time before a big club snatches him up, City or whoever else.

This is a player who can be a solution for all LB problems for years to come, both of Nagelsmann and German NT but especially at club level.
